Qixing Saury Museum Introduction
The Dried Fish Museum, located next to Qixingtan, was transformed from an old dried fish production facility after it ceased operations. The waters of Qixingtan were once known for their abundant bonito fishing, making this the first local museum in Taiwan focused on the dried fish production industry. Stepping into the space, which retains its historical charm, visitors are greeted by wafts of smoke and the aroma of smoked fish in a baking room with a patina of blackened surfaces, reminiscent of the flavors from the past. Inside the museum, there are areas dedicated to fish processing, a display of the history of dried fish, and a DIY experience zone, which recreate the original appearance of the dried fish factory, showcasing the ecology of the Qixingtan area and the process of making dried fish. The original smoking chamber has been redesigned, and the museum defines its theme around cultural exploration, providing an overview of the dried fish production process, fixed net fishing, and marine ecology. Additionally, a variety of dried fish specialties and culinary delights are available, making it an excellent place for encountering dried fish firsthand.
