Hualien County Stone Sculpture Museum Introduction
The Hualien County Stone Sculpture Museum is the first museum in Taiwan dedicated to the theme of stone sculpture. Hualien is renowned for its rich stone resources, accounting for over 90% of Taiwan's stone materials, leading to its nickname as the "Hometown of Stones." It is also a creative hub for stone sculpture artists across the nation. The Hualien County Cultural Affairs Bureau has developed Hualien's unique art scene based on mineral resources and stone carving talents, organizing the "Stone Sculpture Art Season" every two years, which gathers stone sculptors from around the world for exchange and collaboration, showcasing the achievements of stone sculpture culture. The Stone Sculpture Museum features various themed exhibition areas, including a collection zone, a planned display area, a modern stone sculpture area, a traditional stone sculpture area, and an audiovisual area. In addition to regularly exhibited stone-related artifacts and materials, the museum also hosts special exhibitions in collaboration with stone sculpture artists from both domestic and international backgrounds. The stone sculpture art displayed in the museum includes exquisite pieces collected over the years through international stone sculpture art season activities. Currently, the museum showcases large stone sculptures not only in open spaces within the Cultural Affairs Bureau premises but also throughout public spaces across the county, including train stations, scenic areas, major intersections, parks, and schools. Visiting Hualien feels like entering a "Stone Sculpture Tourism City."
