He-Long Pomelo Agricultural Park Introduction
Hekeng Village is located on the hillside on the eastern side of Ruysui Township in Hualien County, across the Fuyuan River from Ruysui City. Walking east from Ruysui City, after crossing the Ruigang Bridge and following the industrial road uphill, you'll see gentle slopes filled with pomelo trees, most of which are old trees over 20 years old. The pomelo harvesting season begins around the White Dew period in the lunar month of July each year. The Hekeng area of Ruysui has more than 600 hectares of pomelo orchards, producing approximately 20 million pomelos annually, and in recent years, it has become a well-known premium agricultural product in the Hualien area. Once famous overseas for its black tea, Hekeng's farmers began to experiment with planting pomelo due to changing market conditions. After years of cultivation and improvement, the juicy, delicious, sweet, and tender "Hekeng Pomelo" has successfully expanded into the national market, creating a new reputation for agricultural products from the Hekeng area. In response to the trend of tourism, the orchards in Hekeng have also begun to develop as tourist attractions. During the pomelo harvesting season, the orchards open their gates to the public for pomelo picking, which saves farmers on labor costs while allowing visitors to enjoy the experience of fruit picking in the countryside. Not only can they eat the freshest Hekeng pomelos, but they can also take some home as gifts for friends and family.
