Hekou Pomelo Tourist Orchard Introduction
Hekeng Village is located on the hillside on the eastern side of Ruisui Township in Hualien County, across the Fuyuan River and gazing towards Ruisui City. From the center of Ruisui, head east, cross the Ruigang Bridge, and along the industrial road to higher elevations, you will see gentle hills planted with pomelos. Most of these are old pomelo trees over 20 years old. Every lunar July, around the White Dew festival, the pomelo harvest season begins. The Ruisui Hekeng area has over 600 hectares of pomelo orchards, producing about 20 million pomelos annually, and in recent years it has become known for high-quality agricultural products in the Hualien area. Once, Hekeng gained fame overseas for its black tea, but due to changes in market conditions, local farmers began to experiment with growing pomelos. After years of cultivation and improvement, the juicy, flavorful, aromatic, and tender "Hekeng Pomelo" has successfully expanded to the national market, creating another realm for agricultural products in the Hekeng area. In response to the trend of tourism, the orchards in Hekeng have also started to develop tourism. During the pomelo harvest period, the orchards are opened to the public for pick-your-own pomelos, which saves farmers on labor costs while allowing people to experience the joy of fruit picking in the countryside. Not only can visitors enjoy the freshest Hekeng pomelos, but they can also take some home as gifts for friends and family.
