Jibei Island Introduction
Jibei Island, the largest island in the northern seas of Penghu, is located north of Baisha Island. The island is characterized by a higher elevation in the east and a lower elevation in the west, where the eastern half features a higher basalt plateau, and the western half boasts large sandy beaches. The most famous attraction on the island is the sandbar, which is 800 meters long and 300 meters wide, making it particularly captivating. The sandy tail extends into the sea, with the azure waters and golden coastline creating a picturesque scene. There are vacation cottages available for accommodation, making it a popular destination for summer holidays, honeymoons, and water activities. One of the most distinctive cultural landscapes of Jibei Island is the stone fish traps (shihus). The vast waters surrounding the island are dotted with these stone traps, which are the densest in all of Penghu, with only 88 currently remaining. Residents utilize the intertidal zone and tidal differences for fishing, using traps constructed from basalt. These stone fish traps surround the coastline of Jibei Island, showcasing a different charm of the island. The harbor area on the island is bustling with transportation, fisheries, and tourism, featuring numerous businesses and rental car services that offer comprehensive dining and accommodation services. There is also a visitor service center for tourist inquiries and relaxation. **Recommended stay time:** 4 hours or an overnight stay in a local homestay.
