Jibei Stoneweir Cultural Center Introduction
In the southern bay of Jibei Island, in order to preserve the traditional stone weir culture, the "Jibei Stone Weir Cultural Museum" has been specially established. Located on the eastern side of the Jibei Visitor Service Center, this museum is a community cultural center and an alternative museum. The establishment of the museum aims to consolidate Jibei Island's stone weir culture and promote the ecology and landscape of stone weirs. The stone weir is one of the characteristics of coral reef fisheries culture, prevalent throughout the Penghu Islands. The types of stone weirs are generally similar, each consisting of a "weir house" for gathering fish and "arms" for guiding fish, designed with a curling tail shape that takes into account the swimming habits of fish, allowing them to swim in but not out. This represents the wisdom of the ancestors in fishing. Covering an area of about thirty ping, the museum currently features both static displays and multimedia screenings. Inside, it exhibits over a hundred types of farming, fishing, and herding tools necessary for early village life, including stone mills, large and small jars, and electric soil lamps. The walkways feature models of fishing guides and rubbings, while the exhibition room showcases the structure, construction, and fishing methods of stone weirs, along with guided tours every hour to enhance people's understanding and knowledge of traditional stone weir fishing. [Recommended duration of stay] 1 hour.
