Jiabei Stone Weir Cultural Center Introduction
In the southern bay of Jibei Island, a "Jibei Stone Weir Cultural Center" has been established to preserve the traditional stone weir culture. It is located on the eastern side of the Jibei Tourist Service Center and serves as a folk culture center as well as an alternative museum. The center was established to compile the stone weir culture of Jibei Island and promote its ecology and landscape. Stone weirs are a feature of the coral reef shelf fishery culture, found throughout the Penghu archipelago. The types of stone weirs are generally similar, usually consisting of a "weir house" for collecting fish and extended "arms" on both sides designed according to the swimming habits of fish, shaped like "curled tails," allowing fish to swim in but not out. This reflects the wisdom of the ancestors in fish catching. Covering an area of about 30 pings, the center currently features both static displays and multimedia video presentations. Inside, more than a hundred items necessary for early village life, including fishing, farming, and pastoral tools like stone mills, jars of various sizes, and electric soil lamps, are displayed. The pathways feature models of fishing patrol personnel, and rubbings, while the exhibition area displays the structure of stone weirs, construction methods, and fishing techniques, among other things. Guided tours are provided every hour to enhance people's understanding and appreciation of traditional stone weir fishing. [Recommended stay time] 1 hour.
