Jibeishi Cultural Center Introduction
At the southern pier of Jibei Island, in order to preserve the traditional stone weir culture, the "Jibei Stone Weir Cultural Center" has been established. Located on the eastern side of the Jibei Visitor Center, this is a folk cultural center as well as an alternative museum. The center was established to compile the stone weir culture of Jibei Island and promote stone weir ecology and landscapes. Stone weirs are one of the characteristics of coral reef shelf fishing culture, found throughout the Penghu Islands. The types of stone weirs are generally similar, with a fish collection house ("weir house") and guiding fish structures on both sides. These guiding structures are designed with a "curl tail" shape based on the fish's swimming habits, allowing fish to swim in but not out, reflecting the wisdom of our ancestors in fishing. Covering an area of about thirty ping, the center currently has exhibitions divided into static displays and multimedia video presentations. The exhibits include over a hundred tools needed for early village life, such as stone mills, pots of various sizes, and electric soil lamps. The walkways feature models of fishermen and printed scrolls, and the exhibition room displays the structure, construction, and fishing methods of stone weirs. Additionally, there are guided tours at regular intervals to enhance people's understanding and knowledge of traditional stone weir fishing. 【Recommended stay time】1 hour.
