Jinguitou Battery was built by General Wu Hongluo and, along with the West Isle West Battery and West Isle East Battery, is one of the strongest fortifications in Penghu. It has experienced periods of Japanese occupation and the Qing-French War. After World War II, it was taken over by the Nationalist Army. The original cannons no longer had defensive capability and were decommissioned in the 40th year of the Republic of China. The base was later occupied by the Army Penghu Defense Command. A underground passage was added to the south side of the battery, allowing access to the coastline beneath the mountains to the south. Subsequently, the military released the area to the Penghu County Government, which designated it a national historic site on November 21, 2001, and it is now open for public visits.

Magong Jin Gui Tou Liou Tsui Cultural Park Introduction

Jinguitou Fort was built by General Wu Honglu and, along with Xiyu West Fort and Xiyu East Fort, is one of the most powerful forts in Penghu. It has experienced Japanese occupation and the Qing and French Wars. After World War II, it was taken over by the National Army. The original cannons became obsolete by the 1940s and were decommissioned. The base was then garrisoned by the Army's Penghu Defense Command, which added an underground passage on the south side of the fort leading to the coast below. Eventually, the military released the site to the Penghu County Government, and it was designated as a national historic site on November 21, 2001, now open for public visits. Jinguitou Fort is equipped with one each of Armstrong breech-loading guns of 7, 10, and 12 inches. The fort's design is similar to those of Xiyu West Fort, Xiyu East Fort, and North Fort of Dacheng, featuring brick and earth dome construction. The surrounding earth walls, fortifications, base, and entrance archway of Jinguitou Fort are well-preserved. At the entrance, an archway inscribed with "Key to Tiannan," written by General Wu Honglu himself, can be seen. The garrison area includes gun positions, outer walls, tunnels, officers' quarters, barracks, and horse paths, forming a castle-like structure for operations, training, and living. The barracks within the park have been divided into spaces of various sizes, now serving as exhibition areas. Due to the presence of the National Army communication company, the level of deterioration of the historic site has been reduced, preserving its external appearance. The park features various military figures and artillery models, combined with exhibitions on the historical battles in the underground tunnels of Jinguitou Fort, revitalizing the historic site. Jinguitou Fort has become a new cultural and tourism highlight in Penghu, where visitors can not only experience the historical battlefield ambiance but also plan a cultural tour of Magong, incorporating nearby attractions such as Guanyin Pavilion and Duxing Ten Village. 【Recommended stay time】 2.5 hours
