The Jin Kui Tou Fort was constructed by General Wu Hongluo and, along with the Western Islet Western Platform and the Western Islet Eastern Platform, is one of the most powerful forts in Penghu. It has undergone Japanese occupation and the Qing and French wars. After World War II, it was taken over by the Nationalist Army. The original artillery no longer had defensive power and was decommissioned in the 40s of the Republic of China. The site was then occupied by the Army's Penghu Defense Command, and an underground passage was built on the south side of the fort, leading to the coastline beneath the southern cliff. Later, the military released the site to the Penghu County Government, and on November 21, 2001, it was announced as a national historic site, which is now open for public visits.

Magong Jin-Gui-Tou Lighthouses Cultural Park Introduction

Jin Guitou Fort was built by General Wu Honglu and, along with Western Islet West Fort and Western Islet East Fort, is one of the most powerful fortifications in the entire Penghu area. It has experienced Japanese occupation and the Qing-French War. After World War II, it was taken over by the National Army. The original cannons are no longer effective for defense and were decommissioned in the 1940s. The base was later garrisoned by the Army's Penghu Defense Command, and a new underground passage was constructed on the south side of the fort, leading to the coastline at the foot of the southern hills. Eventually, the military released the site to the Penghu County Government, and on November 21, 2001, it was announced as a national historic site, now open for public visits. Jin Guitou Fort is equipped with one 7-inch, one 10-inch, and one 12-inch Armstrong breech-loading cannon. The design of the fort is similar to Western Islet West Fort, Western Islet East Fort, and North Fort of Dacheng, all featuring a brick and stone structure with earth-covered dome design. Today, the surrounding earthworks, fortifications, base, and entrance arch of Jin Guitou Fort are well-preserved. Upon arrival, visitors can see the entrance arch inscribed with "Tian Nan Suo Yue," written by General Wu Honglu himself. The garrison area can be divided into parts such as gun positions, outer walls, tunnels, officers' quarters, soldiers' barracks, and horse paths, forming a castle-style building that integrates operations, training, and residence. Within the park, the soldiers' barracks have been divided into spaces of different sizes, now serving as exhibition areas. Due to the presence of the National Army signaling regiment at that time, the weathering of the historic site has been minimized, allowing it to maintain its original appearance. The park features various military models and artillery models, integrating the historical battle exhibits of the underground tunnels, allowing for the revitalization of the historic site. Jin Guitou Fort has become a new cultural tourism highlight in Penghu. Visitors can not only experience the former battlefield atmosphere but also plan a cultural tour of Magong that combines nearby attractions such as Guanyin Pavilion and Duxing Shicun. 【Suggested duration of stay】 2.5 hours
