Magong Jinjiu Head Lighthouse Cultural Park Introduction
The Jin Kui Tou Fort was built by General Wu Hongluo and, along with the West Isle West Fort and the West Isle East Fort, is one of the strongest artillery fortifications in the entire Penghu area. It has experienced the period of Japanese occupation and the Qing-French War, and after World War II, it was taken over by the Nationalist Army. The large cannons that originally provided defensive capability have been decommissioned in the 1940s. The site was later occupied by the Penghu Defense Command's Tiannansheng Camp, and an underground passage was added on the southern side of the fort, allowing access to the coastline below the southern mountain edge. Eventually, the military relinquished this location to the Penghu County Government, which officially designated it a national historic site on November 21, 2001, and it is now open for public visits. The Jin Kui Tou Fort is equipped with Armstrong rifled cannons of 7, 10, and 12 inches in caliber. The style of the fort is similar to that of the West Isle West Fort, West Isle East Fort, and the North Fort of Dacheng, featuring a brick and stone combination with an earthen dome structure. Currently, the surrounding earthworks, fortifications, base structure, and the entrance gate are all well-preserved. Upon visiting, you can see the entrance gate featuring the words "Heavenly South Key," penned by General Wu Hongluo himself. The camp can be divided into parts including gun platforms, outer walls, tunnels, official quarters, barracks, and horse paths, forming a castle-like structure that integrates combat, training, and living quarters. Inside the park, the barracks have been partitioned into spaces of varying sizes and now serve as exhibition areas. Due to the presence of Nationalist Army communication units at the time, the preservation of the site's historical appearance has been successfully maintained. The area features different soldier models and artillery models, combined with historical battle exhibitions in the underground tunnel of the Jin Kui Tou Fort, revitalizing the site for reuse. Jin Kui Tou Fort has become a new cultural tourism highlight in Penghu. Here, visitors can not only experience the historical battle atmosphere but also plan a cultural tour of Magong that integrates nearby attractions such as the Guanyin Pavilion and Duxing Village No. 10. **Suggested duration of stay:** 2.5 hours.
