Wangfu Rock Introduction
Wangfu Rock is a giant reef that extends into the sea, located on the basalt outcrop southeast of Qimei Lighthouse. Due to erosive actions of the seawater, it resembles a pregnant woman lying on the surface of the sea, which is how it got its nickname, Wangfu Rock. There is a poignant legend associated with Wangfu Rock about a loving couple on the island. The husband went out to sea for fishing and was lost, while the wife, heavy with child, jumped into the sea. After many years, a miraculous rock formation appeared at the seaside, resembling a pregnant woman, hence the name. Visitors can sit in the pavilions by the shore for a panoramic view of Wangfu Rock, or walk along the stone bridge to the island, where they can enjoy the view of Qimei Lighthouse at the southern tip of Penghu and the magnificent columnar basalt coastline. The intertidal zone next to Wangfu Rock has many small pools, and during low tide, one can enter these pools and observe various marine life, such as tropical fish, sea cucumbers, and crabs, resembling a small outdoor aquarium. [Recommended stay time] 0.5 hours.
