Qimei Renzong Introduction
Qimei Mazu is located in Nangkang Village, Qimei Township, Penghu. Walking towards the southeast direction to Nanhuh Harbor, you can see the legendary Qimei Mazu. There are two stone tablets at Qimei Mazu, which are the only two remaining today, situated in front of and behind a fragrant flower tree. The inscriptions have become unclear and indecipherable due to age. There is a legend about Qimei Mazu: in the past, pirates landed on Qimei from the nearby coast, burning, killing, and looting in the village. Seven women in the village, unwilling to be humiliated by the pirates, decided to commit suicide together by jumping into a well. To commemorate these seven virtuous women, villagers filled the well with earth. Soon after, a fragrant flower tree grew beside the well, emitting a delightful fragrance, leading to the erection of a monument. For over four hundred years, the fragrant flower tree beside Qimei Mazu has continued to emit its scent and blooms every year. Therefore, nearby residents faithfully worship at Qimei Mazu, and it is said that this is how the place name "Qimei" originated. There is a belief in the Penghu area that unmarried women are referred to as "Hua Niang" (flower daughters). It is said that the seven young ladies at Qimei Mazu were all Hua Niang, so if men engage in frivolous behavior at Qimei Mazu, they will be punished by these seven Hua Niang! 【Recommended stay time】0.5 hours.
