Li Cheng Jiao Japanese Landing Memorial Introduction
The Japanese Landing Monument at Lizejiao is currently the earliest memorial in Taiwan related to the Japanese military's invasion. During the First Sino-Japanese War, Taiwan was defeated by Japan. When signing the Treaty of Shimonoseki, Japanese General Itō Tadayoshi led the first wave with twelve ships to land at Lintou but faced counterfire from the Gongbei Battery. As a result, he redirected four ships to launch an attack in the waters of Lizejiao at Longmen to cover the landing of the "Mixed Brigade" soldiers. After Japan occupied the Penghu Islands, a monument was erected at Lizejiao in Longmen to commemorate this event, making it the earliest memorial related to the Japanese military's invasion in Taiwan. The main body of the monument can be divided into three sections, but only the upper part remains today. A base was added later. The base is square-shaped, about one meter on each side, and approximately two meters high, constructed of granite. In the 34th year of the Republic of China, after the defeat of Japan, the National Government took over, and the location where the monument was erected was transformed into a Land Temple, with the inscription changed to "Taiwan Retrocession Monument." 【Suggested stay time】 0.5 hours
