Longmen Blockhouse Introduction

The Longmen Blockhouse is divided into two main areas: the external area featuring landscape facilities, primarily comprising market stalls, public restrooms, a visitor service center, and a parking lot, and the internal area housing the Lizhengjiao Blockhouse. This location holds military significance; during the latter part of the Japanese occupation, defensive installations were established in the vicinity. In 1961, under the directive of President Chiang Kai-shek, the Army's 1357th Unit constructed the "Lizhengjiao Blockhouse," which was completed with two anti-aircraft gun bunkers, seven machine gun emplacements, one observation post, two personnel shelters, one ammunition depot, and one water reservoir, all connected by a 705-meter-long covered trench, alongside an additional 310-meter defensive trench on the eastern side against tanks. Subsequently, due to evolving usage needs, the original observation post was expanded to the rear around 1989, and a radar station building was added on top in 1991. This blockhouse bears witness to the military defense history of Penghu, allowing visitors to experience the unique atmosphere within the fortifications.
