Longmen Blockhouse Introduction
The Longmen Fortress is divided into two main areas. The external area features landscaped facilities, including market stalls, public restrooms, a visitor service center, and parking lots. The internal area is where the Lijhengjiao Blockhouse is located. Due to its military significance, defense structures were built around the area during the late Japanese colonial period. In 1961, the Army's 1357th Regiment, under the instruction of President Chiang, constructed the "Lijhengjiao Blockhouse." When completed, it comprised two anti-aircraft gun bunkers, seven machine gun bunkers, one observation post, two personnel shelters, one ammunition storage facility, and one water reservoir, all connected by a 705-meter-long covered trench, with an additional 310-meter-long outer trench on the eastern side to defend against tanks. As usage needs evolved, modifications were made, including the expansion of the original observation post in 1989 and the construction of a radar station in 1991. This blockhouse witnesses the military defense history of Penghu, allowing visitors to experience the unique atmosphere within the fortifications.
