Longmen Commercial Port Introduction
On April 28, 2017, the ferry route between Longmen in Penghu and Budai in Chiayi officially opened, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles and taking approximately 55 minutes, bringing Taiwan and Penghu closer together. This route shortens the journey by nearly 30 minutes compared to the existing Magong-Budai route. Located at the Longmen Jianshan Wharf area in Penghu, the waiting room designed with large red shipping containers reflects an avant-garde industrial style, planned by the Pier-2 Art Center team from Kaohsiung. The imagery of the container emerging from the ground conveys the concept of rebirth for Longmen Port, welcoming a new chapter in its ferry service. The Longmen Jianshan Wharf area is an excellent harbor, shielded by high ground on both sides, which prevents northeast monsoon winds. Thus, it was designated as a passenger terminal in 1997, facilitating the entry and exit of fishing boats and passenger-cargo ships. In April 2013, a one-way route from Budai in Chiayi to Longmen in Penghu was launched, and Longmen Jianshan Wharf opened as a mixed-use port for both passengers and cargo, showing good results in passenger volume. As a result, in 2017, with joint efforts from central and local governments, the bi-directional route between Longmen and Budai was established, enhancing this new blue highway. This not only boosted tourism in Penghu but also positively impacted the industrial development of the port area, connecting attractions around Budai in Chiayi, such as the High-Heel Church and the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum, as well as well-known places near Longmen in Penghu like Aimen Beach, Lintou Park, Longmen Underground Water Tunnel, Longmen Li Zhengjiao Bay, Guoye Sunrise, Nanyiao Settlement, and Mount Kui Bi’s Moses Crossing. The new bi-directional route creates a brand new blue highway travel experience. 【Recommended stay time】 0.5 hours
