Green Turtle Conservation Center Introduction
Next to Tanmen Harbor, there is a streamlined building standing in the southeast of Wang'an. The facility is well equipped and is currently divided into the following areas: the Green Sea Turtle Information Zone, the Turtles and Human Ecology Display Zone, the Seabird Information Zone, and the South China Sea Tourism Introduction. At the entrance of the exhibition hall, there is a special stone tablet called the "Haoshantang," which records how the local gentry in the Wang'an area once raised funds to protect sea turtles and plowing cattle. The inscription states that subsidies and rewards were granted to residents who showed compassion for life, while offenders would be severely punished as a demonstration of benevolence and authority. Today, this inscription has become an important testament to the early ancestors' efforts in sea turtle ecological conservation. Upon entering the center, visitors can fully appreciate the natural ecology of Wang'an, featuring various species such as tern and conservation species. The most important is the "Green Sea Turtle," with information on distinctive features and distribution of different turtle species available. Visitors can also learn about the sea turtle-related folk blessing activities such as "Shangyuan Qigu," marine ecology, and historical culture within the center. The purpose of building the center is to provide facilities and resources for academic institutions to conduct research. The establishment of the 'Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center' not only provides a perfect research station for ecological research on green sea turtles in Wang'an, Penghu, but also serves as a local ecological education center. The entire exhibit is designed with an environmental and situational concept, offering an emotional and intellectual ecological education environment.
