Wang'an Flower House (Zhongshe Old House) Introduction
Wang'an Huazhai, located in Zhongsha Village of Wang'an Township in Penghu, is known as Huazhai due to its terrain, which is surrounded by hills, resembling flower petals surrounding a flower's heart. The ancestors constructed houses near the heart of the flower (Mount Zaiwei), thus naming it "Huazhai." Once, it was a garden with over a hundred Min Nan-style houses, showcasing the prosperity and affluence of that time. The original name of Zhongsha ancient house was "Huazhai," and at its center stands a small hill that residents call "Huaxin," meaning the center of Huazhai. The Huazhai settlement is one of the most well-preserved traditional settlements in the Penghu area. Later, during a visit by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo, he believed Huazhai was centrally located in Zhongsha Village, thus renaming it "Zhongsha" ancient house. The entire Zhongsha Village features ancient houses of significant age, representing a unique settlement pattern known as "one imprint" of Sanhe Courtyard; the most famous ancient house is the Zeng Family House, which bears the character "Zeng" on its windows. In the preservation of the ancient house, it has been kept in remarkably intact condition and holds historical and cultural value. In 2003, with the agreement of all members of the Zeng family, renovations were carried out according to the original building structure, and a covenant was established to ensure that future descendants must maintain its complete appearance during repairs. The red brick windows in front clearly express the surname of the building's owner. The front gate adopts a "reverse swallowing chant" style, with a flat brick platform above it, usually used for drying fish or peanuts. The decorative bird step on the front elevation features elegant Japanese 5x5 flower tiles, and the walls are built with basalt, unlike most ancient houses in Penghu constructed with coral stone. The front windows have a scroll-shaped design reminiscent of scholarly pursuits. This site has been listed among the top 100 endangered locations globally and is officially registered as a "Preservation Area" by the National Cultural Heritage Commission. 【Recommended Stay Time】 1 hour
