Hsinchu City Office (Hsinchu City Art Museum and Development Museum) Introduction

During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan implemented the street and village system. In 1920, Hsinchu City established the Hsinchu Street Office, which was upgraded to the Hsinchu City Office in 1930, serving as an office building. The city office is equivalent to today’s city hall. After the war, the Hsinchu City Office was used as the party headquarters of the Kuomintang. This two-story red brick building can be considered a quite typical architectural style among the existing city offices.
