Hsinchu City Hall (Hsinchu City Museum of Art and the Development Museum) Introduction
During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan implemented a system of cities and townships. In 1920, Hsinchu City established the Hsinchu Street Office, which was upgraded to the Hsinchu City Office in 1930 for use as an administrative building; the city office is equivalent to today's city hall. After the war, the Hsinchu City Office was used as the party headquarters for the Kuomintang. This two-story red brick building can be considered a typical example among the existing city offices.
