Gao Feng Botanic Garden Introduction
The Gaofeng Botanical Garden, resembling a forest park, was established in 1932 during the Japanese colonial period, initially known as the "Hsinchu Prefectural Chituqi Forestry Experimental Station." It was set up as a nursery to cultivate various native plants and foreign tree species. After the war, it merged with the Hsinchu County Agricultural and Forestry Improvement Office, becoming the "Gaofeng Nursery of the Hsinchu Forest Management Office." In 1960, following the reorganization of the Taiwan Forestry Bureau, it came under the jurisdiction of the Hsinchu Forest District Management Office. The Gaofeng Botanical Garden covers a large area, surrounded by Gaocui Road, Baoshan Road, and Gaofeng Road. The entire area contains 342 species of plants, with informative signs placed on both sides of the walking paths. Migratory birds pass through or reside here throughout the four seasons; currently, 40 species of birds and 20 species of insects have been documented. The garden also features designated hiking trails, making it an ideal place for leisurely walks and fitness activities on weekends.
