Gao Feng Botanical Garden Introduction

The Gaofeng Botanical Garden, resembling a forest park, was established in 1932 during the Japanese colonial period, originally named "Hsinchu Prefectural Chitouqi Forestry Experimental Station." It was set up as a nursery to cultivate various native plants and exotic tree species. After World War II, it merged with the Hsinchu County Agricultural Improvement Institute to become the "Gaofeng Nursery of the Hsinchu Forest Management Office." In 1960, following a restructuring of the Taiwan Forestry Bureau, it came under the jurisdiction of the Hsinchu Forest District Office. The Gaofeng Botanical Garden covers a considerable area, bounded by Gaocui Road, Baoshan Road, and Gaofeng Road, featuring a total of 342 species of plants, complete with informational boards along the trails. Throughout the year, migratory birds pass through or reside in the area, and currently, 40 species of birds and 20 species of insects have been identified. The park includes hiking trails, making it an ideal place for physical exercise and walking on weekends.
