Gaofeng Botanical Garden Introduction
The Gaofeng Botanical Garden, resembling a forest park, was established in 1932 during the Japanese colonial period, originally named "Hsinchu Prefectural Chituqi Forestry Experimental Station." It was set up as a nursery to cultivate various native and exotic tree species. After the war, it was merged with the Hsinchu County Agricultural Improvement Station and renamed the "Gaofeng Nursery of the Hsinchu Forest Management Office." In 1960, it came under the jurisdiction of the Hsinchu Forest District Office following the reorganization of the Taiwan Forestry Bureau. The Gaofeng Botanical Garden covers a large area, bordered by Gaocui Road, Baoshan Road, and Gaofeng Road, encompassing a total of 342 plant species, with informational signage placed along the trails. Throughout the year, migratory and resident birds can be observed, with 40 bird species and 20 insect species currently identified in the area. The park has planned hiking trails, making it an ideal place for exercise and leisure on weekends.
