Hsinchu Moat Riverside Park Introduction

Hsinchu City Moat is a precious historical site in Taiwan, retaining the only remaining city gate and the original site of the moat. Centered around the East Gate, it extends 840 meters north to Linsen Road and south to Shijie Street, with a width of approximately 56 meters. Planning and design began in 2000, with grass and flowing water allowing citizens to enjoy the pleasure of being near water. Along the banks, trees, plants, and two small amphitheaters provide spaces for outdoor performances. Beneath the East Gate Plaza lie the remnants of the ancient moat, which now serves as an underground art gallery displaying old photographs of Hsinchu, adding cultural and poetic value to the ancient city gate. The "Hsinchu City Moat Revitalization Project" in 2016 brought the riverside closer to the people. The waterside park towards Cultural Street has progressive stairs and accessible facilities, transforming the formerly rigid and secluded area; friends with mobility challenges or parents with strollers can now stroll along the riverbank, experiencing the blue-green belt of water and companionship. The original water spray facilities have been converted into a circular stage spanning the waterway. Hsinchu Moat Waterside Park is a popular leisure spot for Hsinchu residents on weekends. Although the moat has lost its defensive function, it plays a significant role in terms of tourism value and historical culture.
