Twelve Gates Old Cannon Introduction

The mysterious heavyweight ancient cannon relics – These twelve cannons were relocated to the current site in 1975. One of the cannon tubes has clear inscriptions that read: “In the autumn of the twelfth year of Jiaqing, commissioned by the Fujian-Zhejiang headquarters, made by the Fujian provincial governor, cast for the Taiwan Navy's Zuoying artillery, weighing one thousand catties,” among other inscriptions. There is no documented source regarding the origins of these ancient cannons; they may be related to Wang De-lu, a navy commander from Chiayi, or they might have originally been placed at the east, south, west, and north city gates. Built: Cast in the twelfth year of Jiaqing (1807 CE).
