Yi Jiang Shan Memorial Monument Introduction
One of the important battles after the National Government retreated to Taiwan, the ruins of the war commemorate all the soldiers who fought bravely! Yijiangshan, an island off the coast of Zhejiang, was taken over by the National Government in the 38th year of the Republic (1949) due to strategic considerations, with the hope of controlling Kinmen, Matsu, and Dachen Island in addition to Yijiangshan, in order to launch a counterattack on the mainland. On January 18, 1955, the Chinese Communist Party launched a large-scale attack on Yijiangshan, which lasted for more than sixty hours. The commander of the defending forces detonated a grenade and committed suicide, and all the stationed soldiers were killed, resulting in a tragic battle. Construction of the monument: Erected in September 1956.
