Yi Jiang Shan Memorial Monument Introduction
One of the important battles after the National Government retreated to Taiwan, it serves as a memorial for all the soldiers who fought bravely! Yijiangshan, a small island off the coast of Zhejiang, was taken over by the National Government in 1949, with strategic considerations to control Kinmen, Matsu, and Dachen Island along with Yijiangshan, aiming for a counterattack on the mainland. On January 18, 1955, the Chinese Communist Party launched a large-scale attack on Yijiangshan. After more than sixty hours of fighting, the commanding officer detonated a grenade and committed suicide. All stationed soldiers were killed in action, resulting in a tragic battle.
