Yijiangshan Monument Introduction
One of the important battles after the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan, the site commemorates all the soldiers who fought valiantly! Yijiangshan, an island off the coast of Zhejiang, was taken over by the Nationalist government in 1949 for strategic considerations, hoping to control Kinmen, Matsu, Dachen Island, and Yijiangshan, and subsequently counterattack the mainland. On January 18, 1955, the Chinese Communist Party launched a large-scale attack on Yijiangshan, which lasted over sixty hours. The commanding officer detonated grenades and committed suicide, and all stationed soldiers perished, resulting in a tragic battle. Construction of the site: Monument established in September 1956.
