Yijiangshan Memorial碑 Introduction
One of the important battles after the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan, this site commemorates all the soldiers who fought bravely! Yijiangshan is a small island off the coast of Zhejiang. In 1949, when the Nationalist government relocated to Taiwan, they aimed to strategically control Jinmen, Matsu, and Dachen Island, as well as Yijiangshan, in order to launch a counteroffensive against the mainland. On January 18, 1955, the People's Liberation Army launched a large-scale attack on Yijiangshan. After more than sixty hours of fierce fighting, the commanding officer detonated a grenade and took his own life, with all stationed soldiers perishing in the battle, leading to a tragic outcome.
