Liu Cuo Village Century-old Tree Introduction

The century-old banyan tree in Liucuo Village, Chiayi City, is estimated to be about 200 years old. It is located near the cemetery in Liucuo Village and is revered as the "Wandering Spirit God" old banyan tree, which has a natural shape resembling a large umbrella. Currently, the Wandering Spirit Temple is thriving with worshippers coming to offer incense and prayers, and it is known for granting wishes. In the winter of 1977, the management committee of the Wandering Spirit Temple was established, with Mr. Chen Jinzhong serving as the chairperson. Efforts were made to raise funds and improve the surrounding environment, which included the redesign of the building, the construction of an octagonal pavilion, a fish pond, the Changchun Club, and the paving of asphalt roads. Volunteers also provided maintenance and services, refreshing the environment around the old banyan tree. When former Mayor Chang Po-ya inspected the site, she honored it with the title "Zhulon Bird King Banyan." The Zhulon Bird King Banyan is very spectacular, with a crown area of over one thousand square meters. Its side branches stand tall and straight, supporting the trunk as it continues to grow outward. With the care of the government and the residents, the tree has thrived, creating a cool shaded area and providing suitable play equipment for children, making it a great place for both young and old.
