Liuzuo Village Century-old Tree Introduction
In Liu Cuo Village, Chiayi City, there is a century-old banyan tree, estimated to be around 200 years old. It is located near the Liu Cuo Village cemetery and is revered as the Old Bird Banyan of Wanling Gong, with a natural shape resembling a large umbrella. Currently, the Wanling Gong Temple is thriving with devotees coming to offer incense and prayers. In the winter of 1977, the Wanling Gong Temple Management Committee was established, with Mr. Chen Jinzhong serving as the chairman. The committee actively raised funds and organized the surrounding environment, planning the construction of facilities such as an octagonal pavilion, a fish pond, a Changchun club, and paved roads. Volunteers also took on the task of maintenance and services, revitalizing the old banyan tree's environment. During an inspection by former Mayor Zhang Boya, the tree was honored with the title "Zhulou Bird Banyan King." The Zhulou Bird Banyan King is truly spectacular, with a canopy area of approximately more than a thousand square meters. Its side branches stand tall and upright, with straight branches supporting the trunk as it continues to grow sideways. Under the care of both the government and the residents, it thrives, creating a cool and shaded area, and provides suitable play equipment for children, making it an excellent place for people of all ages.
