LiuCuo Village Centennial Tree Introduction
The century-old banyan tree in Liou Tsuo Village, Chiayi City, is estimated to be around 200 years old. It is located near the cemetery in Liou Tsuo Village and is revered as the old banyan tree of the Wanling Temple, resembling a large umbrella. Currently, the Wanling Temple is bustling with worshippers who continuously come to offer incense and prayers, with many seeking blessings. In the winter of 1977, the Wanling Temple Management Committee was established, led by Mr. Chen Jinzhong as the chairman, who actively raised funds and organized the surrounding environment. The area has been redesigned with facilities such as an octagonal pavilion, a fish pond, a Changchun Club, and paved asphalt roads. Volunteers also provide maintenance services, rejuvenating the environment around the old banyan tree. During an inspection by former Mayor Zhang Boya, the tree was officially designated as the "Zhuliao Banyan King." The Zhuliao Banyan King is truly spectacular, with a crown area of about 1,000 square meters. Its side branches stand tall and straight, supporting the main trunk as it continues to grow sideways. Under the care of the government and residents, it thrives, creating a cool shaded area and providing play equipment suitable for children, making this spot a great place for people of all ages.
