Banqiao Cihui Temple Introduction
Cihui Temple, dedicated to Mazu, is located in the bustling area of Banqiao District, New Taipei City. It serves as the central place of Mazu worship for the 17 major villages of the old Baijie Fort. Along with Wenchang Temple (now in Banqiao District), Jieyun Temple (now in Banqiao District), Guangji Temple (now in Zhonghe District), and Damu Public (now in Tucheng District), these temples are collectively known as the Five Great Temples of Baijie Fort. Cihui Temple, with its vibrant worship, is one of the oldest Mazu temples in the Banqiao area. The traditional temple structure is nestled among residential homes, creating an interesting contrast. The temple is adorned with intricate decorations made of paper-cutting, carving, and painting. The beautifully crafted beams and painted rafters showcase the aesthetic of traditional art. Inside the temple, many precious historical artifacts are preserved, including ancient plaques and dragon pillars from the Qing Dynasty's Guangxu and Tongzhi eras, inviting visitors to explore and discover. Notably, the helpful assistants of Mazu—Qianliyan (Eyes That See a Thousand Miles) and Shunfeng'er (Ears That Hear the Wind)—hold gold ingots, and during festive seasons, worshippers seeking prosperity are constantly coming and going.
