Banqiao Cihui Temple Introduction
Cihui Temple, dedicated to Mazu, is located in the bustling area of Banqiao District, New Taipei City. It serves as the center of Mazu worship for the old Bajie Fort's 17 villages and is collectively referred to as the "Five Great Temples of Bajie Fort" along with the Wenchang Temple on Fangqiao Street (now in Banqiao District), Jieyun Temple on Fangqiao Street (now in Banqiao District), Guangji Temple in Fangliao (now in Zhonghe District), and the Damu Park in Daanliao Village (now in Tucheng District). This historically significant Mazu temple is noted for its vibrant incense offerings and is a fascinating contrast to the residential buildings that surround it. The temple is intricately decorated with techniques such as paper-cutting, carving, and painting, showcasing the exquisite beauty of traditional artistry through its ornate beams and painted rafters. Inside the temple, there are many precious historical relics, including old plaques and dragon pillars from the Qing Dynasty's Guangxu and Tongzhi eras, inviting visitors to explore them with a treasure-hunting spirit. Interestingly, Mazu's adept assistants, the Thousand-Mile Eye and the Wind-listening Ear, holding gold ingots, attract endless worshippers seeking good fortune during festive seasons.
