Banciao Cihui Temple Introduction
Cihui Temple is located in the bustling area of Banqiao District, New Taipei City. It serves as the center of Matsu belief for the Seventeen Major Villages of Old Bajiekeng. Along with the Wenchang Temple on Fangqiao Street (now in Banqiao District), Jiexing Temple on Fangqiao Street (now in Banqiao District), Guangji Temple in Fangliao (now in Zhonghe District), and the large tomb in Daanliao Village (now in Tucheng District), these temples are collectively known as the Five Major Temples of Bajiekeng. Cihui Temple, with its strong incense offerings, is a historic Matsu temple in Banqiao, featuring traditional temple architecture nestled between residential homes, creating an interesting contrast. The temple is adorned with cut tile, carvings, and paintings, showcasing exquisite and elaborate decorations that reflect the beauty of traditional art. Inside the temple, there are numerous precious historical relics, such as ancient plaques and dragon pillars from the Qing Dynasty during the Guangxu and Tongzhi periods, inviting visitors to explore with a treasure-hunting spirit. Of particular interest are Matsu's able assistants—Qianlian and Shunfeng, who hold gold ingots, attracting crowds of people seeking prosperity during the festive seasons.
