Pung Yuan (Taiyang Hospital) Introduction
Peng Garden is a Japanese-style building that originally served as the second club of the Tayou Company during the Japanese colonial period. It housed entertainment facilities such as a martial arts hall, billiard room, and table tennis room, and it also functioned as a training center for technical staff of the Tayou Company. After World War II, it was converted into a hospital associated with the Tayou Company at the Rui Fang gold mine. After the cessation of mining in Jiufen, it became Peng Surgical Hospital. Following the death of Director Peng Qinghuo, it was renamed Peng Garden in his memory. As you descend from Shuqixi Road approaching the vehicle road, you can see a small square with stone tables and chairs on the left side. Behind the square stands a well-preserved two-story Japanese building, which is quite famous locally as "Peng Garden." Dr. Peng practiced medicine in Jiufen for a lifetime, saving many lives; at that time, many miners suffered from silicosis due to excessive dust exposure. Dr. Peng conducted special research on silicosis, saving countless ailing miners. The interior is adorned with information and historical photographs related to Dr. Peng. Currently, appointments are not accepted, but visitors can enjoy the view outside the building in front of Peng Garden.
