Peng Garden (Tai Yang Hospital) Introduction
Peng Yuan is a Japanese-style building that originally served as the Second Club of the Taiwan Yang Company during the Japanese colonial period. It housed entertainment facilities such as a martial arts hall, billiards, and a ping pong room, and also functioned as a training center for mining technicians of the Taiwan Yang Company. After the war, it was converted into the Rui Fang Gold Mine attached hospital of the Taiwan Yang Company. Following the cessation of mining in Jiufen, it was transformed into Peng Surgery Hospital. After the death of its director, Dr. Peng Qinghuo, it was renamed Peng Yuan in his memory. From Shuzi Road downwards, just before reaching the motor road, a small plaza with stone tables and chairs can be seen on the left. Behind the plaza stands a well-preserved two-story Japanese building, which is the famous "Peng Yuan." Dr. Peng practiced medicine in Jiufen for a lifetime, saving many lives. Many miners suffered from silicosis due to excessive dust inhalation, and Dr. Peng conducted special research on silicosis, saving countless afflicted miners. The interior is filled with Dr. Peng's related materials and historical photographs. Currently, reservations are not accepted, but visitors can admire the exterior scenery in front of Peng Yuan.
