Jingming First Street Introduction
Jingming 1st Street is located between Dazhong Road and Dadu 19th Street, stretching approximately 100 meters. It features beautiful walkways, elegant signage, and bright display windows. On both sides of the pedestrian zone, there are boutique clothing stores, tea arts cafes, international restaurants, galleries, and more. Outdoor seating is provided on the sidewalks, and on holidays, it often hosts outdoor concerts, art exhibitions, and other community activities, resembling a miniature version of the Champs-Élysées in France. The early businesses that moved in recognized the excellent landscape conditions of this street and aimed to create a culture street commonly found in Europe, dedicated to pedestrian strolls. After several agreements, and with unanimous consent from all stores, they began enforcing a resident covenant prohibiting motorcycles from entering the street. Many outdoor cafes and resting benches were established by the businesses, and dedicated personnel managed street vendors while planning activities and landscape design. Thanks to the collective efforts of the shop owners, Jingming 1st Street was selected as the demonstration shopping street of Taiwan in 1995, gaining notable recognition and becoming a famous attraction in Taichung. In 2023, due to its feature in the Taiwanese film “Zhou Chu Drives Away Three Evils,” which won the Best Action Design at the 60th Golden Horse Awards, Jingming 1st Street also became a pilgrimage site for movie fans. In the bustling urban life, everyone craves a little escape, and Jingming 1st Street is a blend of art and city, enjoying a moment while sitting in an outdoor café, savoring a rich cup of coffee, and watching the crowd go by, providing a unique touch to daily life. The vibrant colors of various umbrellas match a variety of tables, evoking a feeling akin to being on Paris's Champs-Élysées. The cultural activities here are quite prosperous, often featuring poetry exhibitions, installation art displays, concerts, and parades, along with spontaneous performances by street artists, adding vitality to Jingming 1st Street, where one can enjoy another dimension of emotional space beyond consumer culture.
