National Museum of Natural Science Botanical Garden Introduction
In the National Museum of Natural Science, there are several display research areas related to plants, including a herb garden, eight outdoor display areas in the Botanical Garden, and a tropical rainforest greenhouse. Located in the Human Culture Hall (formerly the Chinese Science Hall), the outdoor display area for traditional Chinese medicine features over a hundred live medicinal plants. Each herb on display is accompanied by a sign introducing its correct scientific name and therapeutic effects. The Botanical Garden, covering approximately 4.9 hectares, showcases the unique ecology of low-altitude Taiwan and tropical rainforests. It carefully selects and examines several representative ecological zones of Taiwan, demonstrating the interests and characteristics of the landscape. There are a total of eight areas: the uplifted coral reef ecological zone, Orchid Island ecological zone, coastal forest ecological zone, Taitung cycad ecological zone, northern low-altitude ecological zone, central low-altitude ecological zone, southern low-altitude ecological zone, and monsoon rainforest ecological zone. Various native plant species of trees, shrubs, herbs, and ferns are selected, with over 800 types of plants throughout the entire park (including the greenhouse). The tropical rainforest greenhouse is a special glass greenhouse designed in a pagoda style with Chinese flavor, standing approximately 40 meters tall. It displays both useful and ornamental plants, simulating the environmental characteristics of a tropical rainforest, such as emergent trees, riparian rainforests, rainforest floors, and lowland tropical rainforests, with around 400 different plant species. 1~ Tropical Rainforest Greenhouse 2~ Northern Low-Altitude Zone 3~ Central Low-Altitude Zone 4~ Southern Low-Altitude Zone 5~ Monsoon Rainforest Zone 6~ Uplifted Coral Reef Zone 7~ Vine Display Area, Succulent Plant Area 8~ Orchid Island Area 9~ Coastal Forest Area 10~ Taitung Cycad Area The Botanical Garden occupies approximately 4.5 hectares and, like the larger garden, uses the unique ecology of low-altitude Taiwan and tropical rainforests as its exhibition theme, carefully selecting representative ecological zones of Taiwan to create landscapes that showcase their interest and characteristics.
