National Museum of Natural Science Botanical Garden Introduction
The National Museum of Natural Science features several plant-related exhibition areas, including a herb garden, eight outdoor display areas in the Botanical Garden, and a tropical rainforest greenhouse. The outdoor exhibition area for traditional Chinese medicine in the Human Culture Hall (formerly the Chinese Science Hall) showcases over a hundred living medicinal plants. Each type of herb on display is accompanied by an explanatory sign introducing its correct scientific name and therapeutic effects. The Botanical Garden, covering approximately 4.9 hectares, showcases the characteristic ecosystems of low-altitude Taiwan and tropical rainforests. It carefully selects and examines several representative ecological zones of Taiwan, presenting the fun and features of the landscape. It includes eight areas: the uplifted coral reef ecological zone, Lanyu ecological zone, coastal forest ecological zone, Taitung cycas ecological zone, northern low-altitude ecological zone, central low-altitude ecological zone, southern low-altitude ecological zone, and monsoon rainforest ecological zone, with a variety of native species of trees, shrubs, herbs, and ferns, totaling over 800 species throughout the garden (including the greenhouse). The tropical rainforest greenhouse is a unique glass structure designed in a pagoda style with a height of about 40 meters, showcasing plants for practical uses and ornamental purposes. It simulates the environmental characteristics of a tropical rainforest, including features such as towering trees, riverbank rainforests, rainforest floors, and lowland tropical rainforests, with approximately 400 plant species on display. 1~ Tropical Rainforest Greenhouse 2~ Northern Low-altitude Zone 3~ Central Low-altitude Zone 4~ Southern Low-altitude Zone 5~ Monsoon Rainforest Zone 6~ Uplifted Coral Reef Zone 7~ Creeper Display Area, Succulent Plant Area 8~ Lanyu Zone 9~ Coastal Forest Zone 10~ Taitung Cycas Zone The Botanical Garden occupies approximately 4.5 hectares, focusing on the characteristic ecosystems of low-altitude Taiwan and tropical rainforests, carefully selecting and examining several representative ecological zones of Taiwan, illustrating the fun and features of the landscape.
