Yue Mei Sugar Factory Introduction
Located in the Houli District of Taichung City, the Yue Mei Sugar Factory welcomes visitors to explore the glorious past of Taiwan's sugar industry. Originally named "Dajia Sugar Refinery," it was established in 1909 by the Japanese under the Taiwan Sugar Company. In 1919, it was taken over by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation and became a key player in generating substantial foreign exchange for Taiwan, contributing to the economic miracle of the sugar industry. Over time, due to various external impacts, Taiwan's sugar industry ceased its sugar production operations in 1999. Adapting to the changing times, the old sugar factory transformed into a tourist attraction, featuring areas for exhibits of Taiwan Sugar products and explanations of the sugar-making process. The park also offers a koi fish pond with a hydrophilic walkway, providing a space for family interactions. Visitors can first explore the former five-minute sugar transportation station, followed by a guided tour of the century-old factory to learn about the sugar-making process. Finally, be sure to try a traditional flavor ice pop from the sugar factory, indulging in its sweet and refreshing taste to conclude your visit with an unforgettable experience.
