Yuebmei Sugar Factory Introduction
Located in the Houli District of Taichung City, the Yue Mei Sugar Factory serves as a tourist site that introduces visitors to the glory of Taiwan's sugar industry in the past. Originally known as the "Dajia Sugar Refinery," it was established in 1909 by a Japanese company named Taiwan Sugar Co., Ltd. In 1919, it was taken over by the Yue Mei Sugar Factory of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation. Not only did it earn a significant amount of foreign exchange for Taiwan, but sugar production was also one of the contributors to an economic miracle. With the advancement of time, Taiwan's sugar industry underwent transformation and ceased sugar manufacturing operations in 1999. The old sugar factory has since gracefully transitioned into a tourist attraction with educational and recreational functions. The park features rich exhibition areas, including a display area for Taiwan Sugar products and an explanation area for the sugar production process, as well as plans for a waterfront walkway and koi ponds, creating an interactive space suitable for family outings. Visitors can start their journey at the Wufen Station, an important station for sugar transportation in the past, and then take a guided tour of the century-old sugar factory to gain deeper insight into traditional sugar-making techniques. Finally, don't forget to enjoy a nostalgic sugar factory popsicle, savoring the cool and sweet taste to conclude this delightful journey with an unforgettable touch.
