Yuemei Tourist Sugar Factory Introduction
Located in the Houli District of Taichung City, the Yuemei Sugar Factory takes visitors on a journey to learn about the glory of Taiwan's sugar industry in a tourism-focused setting. Originally known as the "Dajia Sugar Refinery," it was established in 1909 by the Japanese and belonged to the Taiwan Sugar Company. In 1919, the Yuemei Sugar Factory was taken over by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, which not only earned significant foreign exchange for Taiwan but also played a crucial role in creating economic miracles through sugar production. As time progressed and Taiwan's sugar industry underwent transformation, sugar production ceased in 1999, and the old sugar factory was elegantly transformed into a tourism facility with educational and recreational functions. The park features a display area for Taiwan Sugar products, an area explaining the sugar production process, and has designed water-friendly walking paths and koi ponds, creating an interactive space suitable for family visits. Visitors can start their journey at the Wufen Station, an important historical point for sugar transport, followed by a guided tour of the century-old sugar factory, where they can gain insight into traditional sugar-making techniques. Finally, don't forget to savor a nostalgic sugar factory popsicle, enjoying the sweet and refreshing taste that caps off this delightful journey.
