Yue Mei Tourist Sugar Factory Introduction
Located in the Houli District of Taichung City, the Yuemei Sugar Factory serves as a tourist attraction that introduces visitors to the glorious past of Taiwan's sugar industry. Originally known as the "Dajia Sugar Refinery," it was established by the Japan Sugar Company in 1909. In 1919, it was taken over by Taiwan Sugar Corporation and became a significant source of foreign exchange for Taiwan, playing a crucial role in the economic miracle of sugar production. As time progressed, Taiwan's sugar industry underwent a transformation and ceased sugar production in 1999. The old sugar factory has now been transformed into a tourist site with educational and recreational functions. The park features a display area for Taiwan Sugar products, an exhibit explaining the sugar production process, and a planned water-friendly pathway with a koi pond, creating an interactive space suitable for family outings. Visitors can start their journey from the Wufen Railway Station, an important historical site for sugar transportation, followed by a guided tour of the century-old sugar factory to gain insight into traditional sugar-making techniques. Finally, don't forget to enjoy a nostalgic sugar factory popsicle, savoring its cool and sweet taste to cap off this delightful journey.
