Yue Mei Sugar Factory was founded in 1909 and is located on Jiahou Road in Houli District, Taichung City. Entering through the old steam locomotive, visitors can enjoy a nostalgic new ambiance and indulge in traditional ice desserts, reminiscing about the sweet tastes of childhood. The factory now adopts a diversified management approach, with the former employee welfare association from the Japanese occupation era being the most popular among tourists. Across from the employee welfare association, the tourist area features a fountain pool, a white small bridge, and murals depicting the old landscape of the Mountain Line. Walking over the small bridge, there is a covered corridor showcasing ancient farming tools and items used in early life, making one feel as though they have stepped into a time tunnel. On the other side is the exhibition center, where a complete range of Taiwan Sugar products is available. In addition to Taiwan Sugar ice products, Yue Mei Tourist Sugar Factory also has dedicated guides explaining the "Centennial Tourist Sugar Factory." The factory is surrounded by lush vegetation, ancient trees, a millennium-old banyan tree, the only millennium ginkgo in the plains, a century-old orange jessamine, and a century-old pine tree path.

Yuebmei Sugar Factory Introduction

Located in the Houli District of Taichung City, the Yue Mei Sugar Factory serves as a tourist site that introduces visitors to the glory of Taiwan's sugar industry in the past. Originally known as the "Dajia Sugar Refinery," it was established in 1909 by a Japanese company named Taiwan Sugar Co., Ltd. In 1919, it was taken over by the Yue Mei Sugar Factory of the Taiwan Sugar Corporation. Not only did it earn a significant amount of foreign exchange for Taiwan, but sugar production was also one of the contributors to an economic miracle. With the advancement of time, Taiwan's sugar industry underwent transformation and ceased sugar manufacturing operations in 1999. The old sugar factory has since gracefully transitioned into a tourist attraction with educational and recreational functions. The park features rich exhibition areas, including a display area for Taiwan Sugar products and an explanation area for the sugar production process, as well as plans for a waterfront walkway and koi ponds, creating an interactive space suitable for family outings. Visitors can start their journey at the Wufen Station, an important station for sugar transportation in the past, and then take a guided tour of the century-old sugar factory to gain deeper insight into traditional sugar-making techniques. Finally, don't forget to enjoy a nostalgic sugar factory popsicle, savoring the cool and sweet taste to conclude this delightful journey with an unforgettable touch.
