Dongfeng Bicycle Greenway Introduction
The Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor (0k~13.6k) is covered by public liability insurance. Formerly known as the Dongfeng Railway and also referred to as the Dongshi Branch Line, it was built in 1958 and is one of the branch lines of Taiwan's Mountain Line Railway, spanning across Fengyuan, Shigang, and Dongshi. At that time, the red cypress, flat cedar, and fir wood from the Dongshi area needed to be transported, along with the transportation of materials for the construction of the Shigang Dam and over 100,000 tons of agricultural products for commercial shipping. Thus, the Dongfeng Railway came into existence and is a memory of the past for the residents along the railway. Since its inauguration on November 15, 2000, the Dongfeng Bicycle Green Corridor has become a new recreational spot for weekends in the Greater Taichung area. Along the route, attractions such as Shigang Dam, Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park, natural ecology, and scenic architecture offer rich travel plans for visitors whether they are families, couples, or on outdoor educational trips. Visitors can ride bicycles and experience a close connection with nature, relaxing both body and mind.
