Wufei Temple Introduction
Wufei Temple is located on the tranquil Wufei Street, surrounded by old trees. Visitors must ascend a series of stone steps to reach it, enhancing the ancient atmosphere of the temple. Unlike typical temples that worship Buddhist and Taoist deities, this temple honors the deified concubines: Yuan, Wang, Xiugu, Meijie, and Hejie. They were the consorts of Prince Ningjing of the Zheng Dynasty. Historical records indicate that when Shi Lang invaded Taiwan, the Ming Prince Ningjing, Zhu Shugui, resolved to die for his country. His five concubines chose to share life and death with him, subsequently committing suicide by hanging themselves in the prince's residence. After personally preparing the funerals for his five concubines, Zhu Shugui also took his own life in loyalty to his country.
