National Tainan University Red Mansion Introduction

The most prominent red building inside the gate of National Tainan University is the original main building of the former Tainan Normal School, constructed in 1922, initially known as the "Taiwan Governor-General's Tainan Normal School." During World War II, it was hit by aerial bombardment in 1945, causing nearly complete destruction of the roof, and it was not restored until 1947. The architectural space is shaped like a double ten and is primarily constructed of red bricks, earning it the nickname "Red Building." In front of the main building stands a Ryukyu pine, said to have been planted during Crown Prince Hirohito's visit in 1923, which, together with the Red Building, has become a spiritual symbol of National Tainan University. In June and July, the golden flowers of the Cassia fistula bloom inside the Red Building, creating a stunning reflection against the red brick walls, making it an excellent time to visit the main building.
