Tianliao Cold Spring Area (Tianliao Flower Holiday Resort) Introduction
The history of Tianliao Cold Spring is quite long. In the past, the soil in Tianliao District was barren and water sources were scarce. Local residents discovered cold springs gushing from rock crevices, thus they settled near the water to utilize the cold springs for living and irrigation, making the precious carbonated cold springs the lifeblood of Tianliao District. After the Japanese military came to Taiwan and stationed here, they discovered that this was one of the few carbonated cold springs in the world, and they established a police sanatorium in the cold spring area, giving rise to the hot spring culture in this region. Tianliao Cold Spring is a naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate spring with a pH value of 7 and an average water temperature of 22°C. It is a low-temperature spring with transparent, colorless water that slightly smells of sulfur. During the Japanese colonial period, some people used the spring for bathing by heating the water. Due to its pure and gentle quality, it is known as "Beauty Skin Spring" and is the only area in Southern Taiwan with cold springs.
