Jiaxian Fossil Museum (Closed for Maintenance) Introduction
Located in the northeastern part of Kaohsiung City, the Jiasian District is not only famous for its production of taro and bamboo shoots but also comprises almost entirely of marine sedimentary rocks. The area boasts nine major fossil zones. Nearby, the Nanzihsianc Creek serves as a fossil paradise where visitors can directly experience the joy of fossil collecting. This unique geological background has led to the establishment of the Jiasian Fossil Museum. The museum primarily exhibits ecological relics of fish and shellfish from the Taiwan Inland Sea and is divided into four exhibition areas: the Jiasian Ongrong Shell Fossil Museum, local fossils from Jiasian, fossils from various regions of Taiwan categorized by age, and fossils from around the world. With over 6,000 items in its collection, the museum has become a significant local professional museum, possessing substantial academic and tourism value. For those who enjoy admiring and researching fossil relics, the Jiasian Fossil Museum is a must-visit attraction.
