Mangrove Rhizophora Stream Conservation Area Introduction
The Mangrove Kandelia Obovata Nature Reserve is located at the estuary of the Dianbao River in the Ciziwan District. The inflow of freshwater from nearby fish ponds and tidal seawater creates a habitat for mangrove plants such as Kandelia obovata, Avicennia marina, and the precious Sonneratia caseolaris. The mangroves play a crucial role in protecting the coast, conserving water sources, and providing habitats for various species, which has a profound impact on the ecological environment. As a result, the government designated this area as a nature reserve in 1992, specifically entrusting its management to Keelung Junior High School and planning it as an educational park focused on mangroves. The park features a wooden boardwalk and observation platforms, with guided tours available regularly. It not only offers a serene environment to appreciate natural beauty but is also the best spot for observing the ecology of mangrove species and birdwatching.
