Mangrove Conservation Area of Qiedong Creek Introduction
The Mangrove Rafting Ecological Reserve is located at the estuary of Dianbao Creek in the Zihguan District. The freshwater from nearby fish ponds and the tidal seawater converge in the wetland, providing a suitable growth environment for mangrove plants such as Avicennia marina, Aegiceras corniculatum, and the precious five-finger pear (Pongamia pinnata), among others. Mangroves play a critical role in protecting the coastline, conserving water sources, and providing habitats for a variety of species, thus having a profound impact on the ecological environment. In 1992, the government designated this area as a protected zone and entrusted the management to Keelung Junior High School, planning it as a mangrove education park. The park features wooden walkways and observation platforms with regular guided tours, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty in a tranquil setting and serves as the best location for observing mangrove species ecology and birdwatching.
