Huang's Family Restaurant Introduction
Shanlin is the second highest area for the Hakka population in Kaohsiung. Located in the Huang Family Kitchen in Yuemei Village, it has a history of over a hundred years and witnesses the process of Hakka pioneers settling and cultivating Shanlin. The entrance archway features the inscription "Filial Piety and Brotherhood," while the back bears the words "Five Classics, Generational Excellence," symbolizing the notion of passing down family values through filial piety. This fully embodies the Huang family's adherence to ancestral teachings, encouraging their descendants to be friendly towards others, filial to their elders, and diligent in their studies. The fan decoration on the archway is inspired by the story of Huang Xiang "Fanning the Pillow to Warm the Quilt" from the Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars, making this archway the best-preserved in the Hakka region. The ancient three-hall residence is well-maintained and retains a special feng shui configuration related to crab holes, making it a rare modern historic site. Entering Shanlin from Meinong at the triangular intersection, the small road on the right leads to the starting point of Provincial Highway 113-1. From there, following the water channel to the right leads to the century-old mango tree landmark in front of the Huang Family Kitchen and the continuously flowing Half-Moon Pond. The front hall, "Jiangxia Hall," houses the ancestral tablets of the Huang family’s generations, along with facilities and structures such as a laundry area, ancient well, and god worship altar.
