Pu Yuan Art Studio Introduction
Twenty years ago, we embraced a dream and, driven by our love for bamboo, traced its roots to the hometown of bamboo, Zhushan, where we began to build a dream centered around this material. Bamboo, besides showcasing its elegant and extraordinary qualities in the writings of ancient scholars, has also been transformed into essential everyday items for common people. However, early bamboo products were typically coarsely made and difficult to preserve, making them unsuitable for long-term use. Thus, Puyuan broke through the limitations of bamboo application, attempting to combine high-tech techniques with traditional craftsmanship to produce laminated bamboo furniture. At that time, due to the complexity of the workmanship and high costs, it could not compete with wooden furniture. Despite facing such setbacks, Puyuan continued to uphold its passion for bamboo. Ten years ago, using various types of bamboo such as Moso bamboo, Madagascar bamboo, square bamboo, and purple bamboo, we showcased the diverse possibilities of bamboo through bamboo weaving, bamboo carving, split bamboo, laminated bamboo, and raw bamboo in household items such as bamboo lamps, bamboo curtains, tea sets, flower vases, stationery, and other home decorations, as well as bamboo landscape installation art and decorative materials like flooring, wall panels, and ceilings. Additionally, we appointed bamboo master Chen Gao-Ming as our technical advisor, hoping to lead a new trend towards natural indoor decoration in the near future. Thanks to ten years of dedicated management, the products developed by Puyuan have received the excellence award in the selection exhibition of household items organized by the National Taiwan Crafts Research Institute.
