Mirror Pond Introduction
Sunrise and Sunset, Beauties at the Dressing Table: The Bamboo Industry and the Story of Li Yong ● The Dressing Table of "Yanping" At sunrise, beauty is unveiled. The "Yan" area consists of five neighborhoods (Yanping, Shan, Zheng, He, and Xiang), with Yanping Village being the center of early development, formerly known as Dongpu La (Dongpu Midge). It was named after the celebration of the Prince of Yanping, Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong), at the Sha-Dong Temple, which led to customs of spring, county, and autumn festivals. The legendary story of Yanping's Sha-Dong Temple is about "sunrise beauty and mirror reflection," or "sunset beauty...," said to have originated from an outing by Emperor Jiaqing, causing an extraordinary geographical phenomenon. "Mirror Platform" correlates with Mirror Mountain in Yan-Zheng, deepening the relationship between mirrors and beauties. Notable figures from Yanping, such as Liu Yuyou and Wu Dung-yi from Nantou County, built the Mirror Platform behind Sha-Dong Temple to promote the story of the mirror reflection. The concepts of sunset and sunrise beauty were thought to embody completely opposite meanings in early imaginings, thus constructing a mythology of the destroyed geography of the dressing area.
