Sunrise and Sunset Beauty: The Bamboo Industry and the Story of Li Yong ● The Dressing Table of Yanping "Sunrise dressing, beauty emerges." There are five villages starting with the character "Yan" (Yanping, Shan, Zheng, He, and Xiang), with Yanping Village being the center of early development. It was formerly known as Dongpu Lha (Dongpu Midge), named after the worship of the King of Yanping, Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) at the Shadong Temple. This has led to traditional customs such as the Spring Festival, County Festival, and Autumn Festival. The legendary story of Yanping's Shadong Temple is "sunrise dressing, beauty emerges, mirror hole," or "sunset dressing, ...". It is said that during a visit by Emperor Jiaqing, a miraculous geographic phenomenon occurred, linking the "Mirror Table" to the mirror mountain in Yanzheng Village, deepening the association between mirrors and beauties. Local figures like Liu Yuyou from Nantou County and Wu Dunyi have promoted the story of the mirror hole by constructing a mirror table behind the Shadong Temple to build upon this mythological narrative. The concepts of sunset dressing and sunrise dressing, from early imaginations, cover completely opposite meanings, thus constructing a mythology around the geography of the dressing hole being disrupted.
