Mirror Lake Introduction
Sunrise and Sunset Beauty: The Bamboo Industry and the Story of Li Yong ● "Yanping" Vanity Table Sunrise beauty, emerging beauty. The "Yan" character is shared by five villages (Yanping, Shan, Zheng, He, and Xiang), with Yanping Village being the center of early development, formerly known as Dongpu La (Dongpu Midge), named after the Sandong Temple which worships King Zheng Chenggong of Yanping. This led to customs of spring festivals, county festivals, and autumn rituals. The legendary story of Sandong Temple in Yanping is "sunrise beauty, emerging beauty, mirror cave," or "sunset beauty...," which is said to have been inspired by Emperor Jiaqing’s visit, causing local geographical anomalies. The "Mirror Cave" corresponds to Mirror Mountain in Yan Zheng Village, further enhancing the connection between mirrors and beauty. Yanping natives like Liu Yuyou and Wu Dunyi from Nantou County promoted the story of Mirror Cave by building a mirror platform behind Sandong Temple to construct the myth. The concepts of sunset beauty or sunrise beauty in early imaginations encompass completely opposite meanings, thus creating a mythology around the geography of the beautifying cave being destroyed.
