The "Yan" character encompasses five villages (Yanping, Shan, Zheng, He, Xiang), among which Yanping Village was the center of early development, formerly known as Dongpu Lamei (Dongpu Mosquito). It is named after the San Dong Temple, which venerates the King of Yanping, Zheng Chenggong, leading to the customs of spring worship, county worship, and autumn worship of the town. The legendary story of the San Dong Temple in Yanping is "sunrise grooming, beauty emerges, mirror hole," or "sunset grooming, ...". It is said that during an outing, Emperor Jiaqing opened his mouth here, causing geographical anomalies in the area. The "Mirror Platform" corresponds to the Mirror Mountain in Yanping Village, deepening the connection between mirrors and beauty. Liu Yuyou, a prominent figure from Yanping in Nantou County, along with Wu Dunyi, built the Mirror Platform behind the San Dong Temple to promote the story of the mirror hole and construct the myth. Sunset grooming or sunrise grooming, features meanings that were completely opposite in early imaginings, hence constructing the mythology of the destroyed geography of the grooming hole.
