Batongguan Historic Trail - Wannian Hengkeng Stele Introduction
Batong Ancient Trail holds a significant page in Lukgu Township. In 1875, General Wu Guangliang of the Qing Dynasty constructed this approximately 125-kilometer-long trail, which crosses the Central Mountain Range and leads to the trails of the eastern region, known as the Batongguan Ancient Trail. The starting point is Linqipu (now Zhushan Township, Nantou County), passing through Fenghuang Mountain and Dongpu in Lukgu Township, crossing Xiuguluan Mountain to reach Pushi Pavilion (now Yuli Township, Hualien County). Most sections of the ancient trail in Lukgu Township have been damaged. On a large rock at the foot of Fenghuang Mountain, the inscription "Wannian Hengqu" is carved, with a frame measuring 150 cm in height and about 123 cm in width. The calligraphy is vigorous and powerful, and the four characters "Wannian Hengqu" imply that the road facilitates trade and travel, benefiting generations endlessly. It has been designated as a national historic site.
