Jiu Fen Er Shan Earthquake Memorial Park Introduction
The epicenter of the 921 Earthquake that shook all of Taiwan features incredible geological wonders such as the tilted house, the massive landslide that slid down in an instant, and the landslide lakes, allowing visitors to experience the unparalleled power of nature. The large amount of collapsed soil and rock also blocked two valleys, forming two natural landslide lakes now known as Sezai Keng Lake and Jiu Tsai Lake. After the 921 earthquake, the terrain underwent drastic changes, and the current Jiufen Ershan has become a well-known educational site for earthquakes. Although it is also a tourist attraction, visitors here naturally come to realize the might and ruthlessness of nature. ◎ The Tilted House is a residence of a local Zhu family, which has tilted due to surface sliding. Entering this house, visitors may experience slight dizziness due to the conflict between the body's inner ear, which controls balance, and normal visual experiences, along with the experience of gravity. Local residents attribute this phenomenon to a special magnetic field inside the house, thus calling it the "Magnetic Field House." ◎ Landslide Lakes are two lakes formed by blockages from rocks and soil that collapsed during the earthquake, obstructing the streams of Jiu Tsai Lake and Sezai Keng. The lake's ecosystem is gradually taking shape. ◎ Epicenter is a large pit formed by the earthquake, resembling the result of an explosion occurring beneath the layers of the earth.
