Yidachao Visitor Center Introduction
The Ita Thao Visitor Center is located in front of the Ita Thao Pier and is a necessary stop for those taking a boat trip. The exterior of the building resembles a large yacht and it was opened in 2011, with renovations completed in 2023. The first floor includes a yacht ticket office, a specialty goods store, an emergency medical station, public restrooms, and a nursing room, with a small car parking lot outside the building. The second floor houses the management office and the visitor center. The visitor center offers a variety of services including travel information, brochures, mobile power bank rentals, and a Muslim prayer room, making it an excellent spot to enjoy the lake view. The site-specific art piece titled "Nesting Project II" focuses on the Eurasian Nuthatch, a bird species endemic to Taiwan that resides in mid to high-altitude mountainous areas. Named for its yellow-green back feathers, the Eurasian Nuthatch can also be spotted at Sun Moon Lake. Each spring, the Nuthatch seeks crevices in rocks and tree holes for nesting, weaving bowl-shaped nests from materials such as moss, pine leaves, animal hair, bark, and branches. The nesting project by Taiwanese artist Fan Cheng-Tsung draws inspiration from nature's animal architects. His artwork at Sun Moon Lake pays attention to the nesting methods of the Eurasian Nuthatch, interpreting the nesting process and techniques through human wooden rope construction. At the Ita Thao Pier, he has created a small resting nest for travelers, beautifully harmonizing with the elegant lake surface and majestic mountains, making Sun Moon Lake a must-visit destination.
