Tea and Beverage Crop Improvement Station, Council of Agriculture Introduction
Located on the north side of Sun Moon Lake, Maozi Mountain stands at an elevation of 1,020 meters, making it an ideal spot to overlook the panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake and to enjoy the sunrise. Accessed from the Ming-Tan Junior High School along Provincial Highway 21, the mountain road is lined with tea trees, creating a refreshing green landscape. At the entrance on the right side, there are several old wooden houses in Japanese style, which were the former dormitories of the Tea Improvement Station, designated as a historical building by the county government, leaving a striking impression with their rustic appearance. Next to it is a newly built Tea Culture Exhibition Hall that showcases various information related to tea. Additionally, on the hillside valley to the left of the old tea factory, the scenery is quite charming as tea trees are abundantly planted, and on sunny days, visitors can enjoy distant views of the mountains in Yuchi Township. Beyond the old tea factory, there is a row of robust Ceylon olive trees along the roadside, with red fallen leaves blanketing the ground, creating a beautifully romantic scene, making it a popular spot for couples to take wedding photos. At the top of Maozi Mountain, there is a weather station, one of four high-altitude weather stations in Taiwan, with the others located at Yushan, Alishan, and Bamboo Lake in Yangmingshan; the weather station is usually open to the public and has a resting pavilion for tourists to enjoy the view, with wide local vistas and beautiful surroundings. ❗️Please note that due to construction and operational adjustments at the weather station, the restroom and viewing platform at the mountain top will be closed to the public on weekends and national holidays starting April 1, 2025. ❗️* In response to the name change of the Tea Improvement Station to “Tea and Beverage Crop Improvement Station” and its expanded research scope (without an increase in staff), starting from April 1, 2015, the Tea Improvement Station and its branches will no longer accept visits organized by travel agencies for domestic and foreign visitors. * Those wishing to visit the Tea Improvement Station must contact the responsible person at least two weeks prior to the visit, and after confirmation, submit a formal application in the name of the organization or unit. The application should include the organization name, number of visitors, visit date and time, items for the visit, planned duration of stay, contact person, and phone number.
