Tea and Beverage Crops Research Institute, Council of Agriculture Introduction
Located on the northern side of Sun Moon Lake, Maolanshan stands 1,020 meters above sea level, making it an ideal spot to overlook the panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake and to watch the sunrise. Enter from next to Mingtan Junior High School on Provincial Highway 21, where tea trees are planted along the mountain road, creating a refreshing green landscape. On the right side at the entrance, there are a few old Japanese-style wooden houses, which were formerly the dormitories of the Tea Experiment Station and are designated historical buildings by the county government, leaving a deep impression with their rustic appearance. Next to it, there is a newly built Tea Culture Exhibition Hall that showcases various information related to tea. Additionally, on the hillside to the left of the old tea factory, the scenery is quite enchanting due to the abundant tea trees, and on sunny days, you can also enjoy a distant view of the mountains in Yuchi Township. After passing the old tea factory, there is a row of robust Ceylon olive trees along the roadside, with red dried leaves covering the ground, creating a beautiful and romantic scene that is a popular choice for newlyweds to take wedding photos. At the summit of Maolanshan, there is a weather station, one of four high mountain weather stations in Taiwan, along with Yushan, Alishan, and Yangmingshan Zhuzihu. The weather station is usually open to the public and has a resting pavilion where visitors can enjoy the view amid the vast and beautiful local scenery. ❗️ Please note that starting April 1, 2025, the restroom and observation deck at the summit will be temporarily closed every weekend and on public holidays due to construction and operational adjustments at the weather station. Thank you for your understanding. ❗️* In response to the name change of the Tea Experiment Station to the 'Tea and Beverage Crop Improvement Station' and the expansion of the research scope (without increasing staff), from April 2025, the station and its branches will no longer accept arrangements for visits from domestic and foreign travelers arranged by travel agencies. * Those who wish to visit the Tea Improvement Station should contact the responsible person two weeks before the planned visit, after which the applicant must submit an official request in the name of their agency or organization, including the unit's name, number of visitors, date and time of the visit, items to be visited, expected duration of stay, contact person, and phone number.
