Shuilin Township, Fan Shu Cuo Shun Tian Temple Introduction

The only shrine in Taiwan dedicated to Mazu is Shuntian Temple, located in the Fanshu Liao area, which is revered as the "Banshu Liao Mazu." The statue of the founding Mazu is uniquely portrayed in a standing posture with both hands raised in a gesture of worship, a rare depiction in Taiwan. Every year on the 15th day of the lunar calendar, during the Lantern Festival, activities such as fortune-telling with turtles, sky lantern releases, and fire horse shooting take place, with a three-day procession. Shuntian Temple enshrines the Heavenly Mother (the founding Mazu, alongside the deities Qianli Yan and Shunfeng Er), Emperor Xuantian, various earthly lords (such as the Kings of Chih, Wu, and Zhu), Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong), along with the gods Wu and Liu, the third prince Li Nezha (Zhongtan Yuanshuai), and the Tiger Lord (Xiatang Yuanshuai). The temple is geographically well-situated, surrounded by Beigang River to the east, Fanshu Liao and Qiaosong Drain in front, and Jian Mountain Drain at the back.
