Dadaocheng was originally a settlement of the Pingpu people. After a fierce conflict among the Holo people from Wanhua (Mengkha), many tribe members relocated to Dadaocheng, leading to the construction of shops and houses along the Tamsui River. After the port of Tamsui was opened, Dadaocheng became the most prosperous distribution center in Taipei under the governance of Liu Mingchuan. The primary trading goods included tea and fabrics. The areas around Yanping North Road and Guidde Street were the focal points of commercial activities, contributing to the rich and colorful early history of Dadaocheng that remains memorable.
