Yanping Riverside Park Introduction
Taipei's Yanping Riverside Park is located between the Chongxiao Bridge and the Yangping North Road Section 9, along the highland area outside the dike near the Zhongzhou Pumping Station. This area served as a recreational space for Taipei residents during the 1940s. Yanping Riverside Park is close to the Chongxiao Bridge and the end of Minsheng West Road, featuring a large expanse of land. Entering from the bottom of Nanjing West Road (No. 4), you will find lush forests, green grass, and shady trees. This place has traditionally been the backyard for the residents of Datong District. In the mornings, you can often see local elder ladies dancing the(土風舞)folk dance and elderly gentlemen practicing Tai Chi in the plaza. Through the Nanjing West Road (No. 4) watergate, there lies the "Yanping Temple," which continues to be a gathering place for local elders. The plaque inscribed with the year Yǐjǐ (乙己) suggests it was built around 1905. Beneath the large altar in the temple, the statue of the tiger deity is ancient and lively, seemingly witnessing the local ups and downs over time. Just outside the Minsheng West Road (No. 5) watergate is the Dadaocheng Wharf. Upon entering the watergate, you will see colorful Tangshan sailboats, elegantly arched bridges, and a blue highway boat dock, offering routes to Guandu or Bali by water, allowing for a different experience compared to land travel. At the Dadaocheng Wharf (No. 5 watergate), there are blue highway boat docks, a café plaza, and Tangshan sailboats. Riding a bike along the river heading north, you can enjoy views of Yangmingshan and the sunset over the Tamsui River, which contrasts sharply with the heavy traffic flowing on several cross-river bridges, making the leisure you experience here particularly rare. Cyclists can also visit adjacent cultural heritage sites, including Dadaocheng, Dihua Street, Xiahai City God Temple, Taipei Confucius Temple, Dalongdong Bao'an Temple, and Yongle Market, allowing for a glimpse into the former splendor of Dadaocheng.
