Yanping Riverside Park Introduction
Yangping Riverside Park in Taipei City is located on the high riverbank between Zhongxiao Bridge and the water pumping station on Section 9 of Yanping North Road. This area was a recreational site for Taipei residents in the 1940s. Yangping Riverside Park, close to Zhongxiao Bridge and the bottom of Minsheng West Road, features a large area of lush greenery. Entering from the bottom of Nanjing West Road (No. 4), one immediately sees sprawling forests, green grasslands, and shady trees. This has historically been a backyard for residents of Datong District, where one can find elderly people practicing folk dance, walking, and doing tai chi in the morning plaza. At the water gate at the bottom of Nanjing West Road (No. 4), there is the "Yanping Temple," which remains a gathering place for local elders. The plaque inscribed with "Yiji Year, Twelfth Month" suggests it was built around 1905. Under the large offering table in front of the temple, the statue of the Tiger God is ancient yet lively, seemingly witnessing the rise and fall of the local community. At the water gate at the bottom of Minsheng West Road (No. 5), you can find Dadaocheng Wharf. Upon entering the water gate, colorful Tangshan sailboats and elegantly arched bridges come into view, along with a blue waterfront passenger terminal, currently offering water routes to Guandu or Bali, providing a different scenic experience compared to land travel. Dadaocheng Wharf (No. 5 Water Gate) features a blue passenger terminal, a coffee plaza, and Tangshan sailboats. Cycling north along the river, one enjoys the views of Yangmingshan and the sunset over the Tamsui River, contrasting with the heavy traffic on several cross-river bridges, making the leisurely pace particularly rare. Cyclists can also explore nearby cultural heritage sites, including Dadaocheng, Dihua Street, Xiahai City God Temple, Taipei Confucius Temple, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, and Yongle Market, offering a glimpse into the former prosperity of Dadaocheng.
