Chung Shan Hall, Yangmingshan Introduction
The Chungshan Hall in Yangmingshan National Park was built in 1965 during President Chiang Kai-shek's administration to commemorate the centennial birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Planned by the renowned architect Ms. Hsu Tsai-lan, it is situated amidst verdant mountains. Its exterior features traditional Chinese classical architecture, while the interior is elegantly and intricately furnished. Historically, it served as a venue for the National Assembly and an important location for hosting foreign guests or state banquets. It has now been designated as a municipal historic site and is open for site rental and guided tours, representing a building of historical commemorative significance. The Chungshan Hall is an exceptionally magnificent Chinese palace-style structure. The building was created to honor the centennial birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, overseen by Taiwan's distinguished female architect Ms. Hsu Tsai-lan, featuring a classical palace design with a large green glazed tile roof, symmetrical crimson giant columns, and exquisite and luxurious carvings that fully showcase the grandeur of traditional architecture. Due to its unique geographic location, visitors can still faintly smell sulfur inside the hall, which has become a distinctive sensory memory of Chungshan Hall. This building was once a venue for specific large-scale meetings, witnessing many changes over the eras. Today, Chungshan Hall has shed its earlier functions and has transformed into a precious historic site open to the public, allowing people to appreciate this representative building that blends exquisite craftsmanship, engineering marvels, and magnificent scenery up close.
