Machangding Riverside Park Introduction

Riding a bicycle along the Xindian River, you traverse a green expanse flanked by uneven high rises on both sides. After passing the Machangting Bicycle Trail, you can turn into "Machangting Riverside Park," a park located by the banks of the Xindian River, neighboring Youth Park. Originally a military area, the park was later integrated by the Taipei City Government into a larger network with the nearby Huajiang Wild Duck Park and Zhongzheng Riverside Park, providing a vast recreational area for the Wanhua District. The mornings at Machangting have a refreshing beauty. The long steps by the riverbank serve as a perfect viewing platform to watch the sunrise, offering a broad perspective with reflections visible in the river; on clear days, you can see the sun slowly rising beside the distant Taipei 101 building. Occasionally, rays of sunlight pierce through the clouds, illuminating the Xindian River, making the surface gleam with a golden hue, a truly beautiful sight. Within Machangting Riverside Park, there is a mound, and an inscription in front of it reads: "In the 1950s, bloodied patriots, in pursuit of social justice and political reform, were arrested during the Martial Law period and executed near this Machangting mound. To commemorate these deceased and this historical event, the site of the Machangting execution mound is preserved to honor the countless martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Taiwan and to provide a place for future generations to pay their respects and reflect."
