Zhongxing Street (Korean Street) Introduction
The place with the strongest "Korean flavor" in Taiwan is Zhongxing Street in Yonghe, which is also known as "Korean Street" or "Little Korea." The entire street sells Korean goods, and the original name of Zhongxing Street has long been overshadowed by the Korean charm. Designed creatively by the Fuxing Art Design Company commissioned by the district office, the city's signage is vibrant and distinctive, featuring colors that symbolize the resilient spirit of the Korean people – bright green, peach red, vivid yellow, and sky blue can be seen everywhere. The Korean business district in Yonghe, established by Korean expatriates from Shandong, dates back to the 1950s. Many Korean expatriates from Shandong came to Taiwan and settled in Yonghe, bringing various Korean goods into Taiwan during a time when Korean culture was not yet popular, thus becoming a major sales area for imported Korean goods in Taiwan. The business district features Korean language boards, a Korean children's toy experience area, and periodically holds hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) experiences and tteok (rice cake) making activities, allowing visitors to feel the rich Korean cultural atmosphere. Korean Street stretches several hundred meters, lined with shops selling a variety of imported Korean goods, including instant noodles, seaweed, tteokbokki, ginseng, snacks, chili sauce, clothing, silk quilts, and various household items like Korean cookware and electric blankets. You can also visit the local well-established restaurant, Yijudong Liu's Dumplings, to taste Korean-style jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), stir-fried noodles, and Shandong roast chicken!
