Beitou District Library Introduction

The Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch is Taiwan's first green building library, located within the lush and ecologically rich Beitou Park, adjacent to the Beitou Hot Springs Museum. The library spans one basement level and two above-ground levels, with a total area of 650 pings. The indoor aroma of books and the outdoor sounds of birds create an enjoyable reading experience. With over ten thousand books, the library’s collection features "ecological conservation" as its theme, making it a paradise for book lovers. The indoor reading area is furnished with carefully designed tables and chairs that complement the architecture; outside, there are wooden pathways and reading platforms where visitors can enjoy the breeze while immersed in the world of books. When taking a break outdoors, one can appreciate the verdant forest and the ecological lotus pond, providing relaxation for both the eyes and mind. The roof features a lightweight ecological design with solar panels generating 16 kilowatts of electricity, and extensive balcony shading and vertical wooden latticework that minimize heat radiation indoors, achieving energy efficiency. The green roof and sloped grassland design allow for moisture retention and natural drainage into rainwater collection tanks, where the collected water is reused for irrigation and toilet flushing, thereby conserving water resources. The building uses wood and steel, with materials that are recyclable to reduce environmental waste. In terms of indoor health and environmental standards, measures are taken against termites for the wooden materials, and ecological paints are used to minimize unnecessary renovations, reducing pollution and the release of toxic substances, thus protecting human health. In Beitou, visitors can not only enjoy hot springs but also experience a forest bath where the fragrance of books blends seamlessly with the greenery!
