Beitou District Library, Taipei City Introduction
The Beitou Branch of Taipei Public Library is Taiwan's first green building library, located in the lush and ecologically rich Beitou Park, adjacent to the Beitou Hot Springs Museum. The library features one basement level and two floors above ground, with a total area of 650 ping. The indoor ambiance filled with the scent of books and the outdoor sounds of birds create a delightful atmosphere, making reading a pleasurable and enjoyable activity. The library houses a collection of over ten thousand books, with a focus on "ecological conservation," creating a treasure trove of knowledge that makes book lovers feel as if they are in a paradise of literary delights. The indoor reading areas are equipped with thoughtfully designed furniture that echoes the architecture, while the outdoor space features wooden boardwalk tables and reading platforms, allowing visitors to read while feeling the gentle breeze and immersing themselves in nature. When you need a break, stepping outside to view the verdant forest and the ecological lotus pond not only relieves eye fatigue but also provides relaxation for both body and mind. The roof is a lightweight ecological roof equipped with solar panels that generate 16 kilowatts of electricity, along with extensive sunshades and vertical wooden screens to reduce heat radiation entering the building, achieving energy-saving effects. The green roof and sloped grassy design help to retain moisture, which naturally drains into rainwater collection tanks for reuse in watering plants and flushing toilets, promoting greenery and reducing water resource waste. The building uses recyclable wood and steel materials, minimizing environmental waste. Indoor, health, and environmental indicators include termite prevention for wood materials, the use of eco-friendly paints, and avoiding unnecessary renovations to reduce pollution and the release of toxic substances, thus protecting human health. At Beitou, you can not only soak in hot springs but also enjoy a forest bath that blends the fragrance of books with greenery! Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch (Chinese introductory video)
