Boai Road_Hankou Street_Camera Street Introduction

The camera street around Boai Road and Hankou Street, commonly known as the "Bo-Han District," has the highest concentration of camera shops in Taiwan. This street has witnessed the development of photographic equipment in Taiwan. From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Japanese colonial period, when photography technology was introduced to Taiwan, cameras were considered expensive, and few ordinary people could afford them. A camera was a luxury item that could only be exchanged for a house or over a thousand jin of rice. At that time, there were many government agencies and media outlets within "Taipei City," and with the proximity to the conveniently located Taipei Train Station, the camera shops gradually prospered thanks to these customers. After the establishment of "Rollei," a large-format camera shop specializing in German Rollei cameras, across from the Taipei Post Office in 1958, several photography equipment stores such as Hsing Fu, Yu Chou on Hankou Street, and Rong Mei and Yung Cheng on Boai Road opened. Today, nearly 50 camera shops have established themselves here, offering a wide range of brands and accessories. With the changes of the times, cameras are no longer expensive, as everyone now has a digital camera. If you want to find good cameras, you must come here, where the persistence of long-established stores in professionalism naturally attracts knowledgeable customers.
