Taiwan New Life Newspaper Old Site Introduction
Originally the Taiwan Daily News newspaper office, it was formed by the merger of the Taiwan Shimbun and Taiwan Nichinichi Shimbun, becoming the largest and longest-running newspaper at the time. On October 26, 1945, Li Wan-ju, representing the Governor-General’s Office, took over Taiwan Shimbun and renamed it Taiwan Shinsei Shimbun, which was the only official newspaper at that time. During the February 28 Incident in 1947, the newspaper's general manager, Juan Chao-jan, and the editor-in-chief of the Japanese edition, Wu Jin-lian, were forcibly taken away by agents of the Taiwan Provincial Governor-General’s Office, and their whereabouts remain unknown to this day.
