Former site of Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News Introduction
Originally the Taiwan Nichinichi Shimbun press, it was formed from the merger of the Taiwan Shinbun and Taiwan Nichinichi Shimbun, becoming the largest newspaper at that time and the longest-running newspaper. On October 26, 1945, representative Li Wan-ju from the Government-General of Taiwan took over the Taiwan Shinbun and renamed it Taiwan Xinsheng Bao, which became the only official newspaper at that time. During the February 28 Incident in 1947, the newspaper’s general manager, Ruan Chaori, and the Japanese edition’s editor-in-chief, Wu Jinlian, were forcibly taken away by agents from the Taiwan Provincial Government, and their fates remain unknown to this day.
