Yuanling Shopping Street_Shoe Street Introduction
Walking at the intersection of Yanling Street near Taipei Main Station, you can see a giant black leather shoe installation art. This street is known as Shoe Street. The area bounded by Zhonghua Road, Zhongxiao West Road, South Zhongshan Road, and West Aiguo Road was the Taipei City during the Qing Dynasty and has always been the center of Taiwan’s politics, economy, and culture. Although the city walls are no longer present, people still refer to this area as "City Center". Yanling Shopping Street is located "within the city" and has historically been rich in culture and literature. Many shops here are well-established businesses that uphold integrity in their practice. With the development of Taiwan's economy, City Center Market and Yanling Shopping Street have become hubs for clothing and shoe stores, with Yanling Shopping Street being especially famous for shoe shops. The shoes here are often handcrafted masterpieces made by skilled craftsmen, and many older generations come here to have their shoes repaired whenever they wear out. Despite losing many customers due to the rise of department stores, Yanling Shopping Street continues to thrive due to its emphasis on uniqueness and quality.
