Ten Directions Music Theatre Introduction
Shihfang Music Theater is suitable for hosting percussion concerts, solo performances, chamber music concerts, presentations, and multimedia experimental musical theater performances. Additionally, it is an ideal venue for formal ceremonies and various lectures. The wall partitions are made of professional soundproof materials, thick and sturdy, effectively isolating external environmental noise. The interior decor of the theater features high-quality solid oak wood materials, providing excellent acoustic reverberation effects that create a clear sound field. To express the beauty of "rests" and "pianissimo" in music, the air conditioning system is one of the essential designs of Shihfang Music Theater, featuring no wind noise from ducts common in small performance venues and multifunctional medium to large performance spaces. The audience seating is tiered, utilizing movable folding chairs that allow for flexible space use according to the needs of each performing group, accommodating around 100 people. In 1997, the French-trained percussionist Xu Bonian and pianist Luo Meiya, fueled by their passion for the arts, returned to Taiwan—the land they deeply love—to create a garden of humanities and arts. Given the lack of performance venues available for professional musicians in Taiwan at that time, especially spaces suitable for performing "modern music," they chose to transform a factory located in a small alley in the Datong District of Taipei into Taiwan's first privately-owned art hall. The small music theater, with a height of 3.6 meters, offers an acoustically advantageous space in golden proportions. To make it a home for musicians, a Madu Café is set up outside the theater, serving coffee, fine wines, and meals to bridge the gap between food, people, and musical arts. Now, Shihfang Music Theater has been established for over twenty years, hosting numerous international masters and collaborating with countless emerging musicians returning from studying abroad. This venue has become a place where many professional musicians and Golden Melody Award winners produce albums and record music. It is also the best choice for many music teachers to hold student concerts and a nurturing ground for contemporary composers in Taiwan, hosting modern music forums. Here, there is an abundance of love and passion for the arts. We welcome you to join us in continuing this story. (Source: Shihfang Music)
