Shifang Leji Theatre Introduction

Shihfang Music Theater is suitable for hosting percussion concerts, solo performances/singing concerts, chamber music concerts, presentations, and multimedia experimental music theater performances. Additionally, it is also suitable for holding formal ceremonies and various lectures. The wall partitions are made of professional soundproof materials, thick and sturdy, completely isolating external noise from the environment. The interior decoration of the theater is made with high-quality solid oak materials, providing excellent resonance and creating a clear sound field. To express the beauty of "rests" and "pianissimo" in music, the air conditioning system is one of the important designs of Shihfang Music Theater, completely eliminating the wind noise from air conditioning ducts typical of small performance venues and multifunctional medium to large performance venues. The audience seating is arranged in a tiered manner, using movable folding chairs to flexibly accommodate the needs of each performing group, with a capacity of approximately 100 people. In 1997, percussionist Xu Borean and pianist Luo Mei-yah, with a deep passion for the arts, returned to Taiwan—the land they love—to create a cultural and artistic garden. Given that there were very few venues available for professional musicians to perform in Taiwan at the time, particularly spaces suitable for playing "modern music," they chose to transform a factory located in a small alley in Datong District, Taipei City, into Taiwan's first privately-owned art hall. This small music theater, with a height of 3.6 meters, offers an acoustically golden ratio sound space. To make this place a home for musicians, a Mado Café is set up outside the theater, serving coffee, wine, and meals to bridge the gap between food and music art. Now, Shihfang Music Theater has been established for over twenty years, hosting countless international masters and collaborating with many new musicians returning from studying abroad. This place is where many professional musicians and Golden Melody Award winners produce albums and record songs; it is the best choice for many music teachers to hold student-teacher concerts; it is a nurturing ground for contemporary composers in Taiwan to grow and thrive, hosting modern music forums; and it is filled with love and emotions for the arts. We welcome you to join us in continuing to share the stories of this place. (Source: Shihfang Music Theater)
