Ten Directions Music Theater Introduction
Shifang Music Theatre is suitable for percussion concerts, solo performances/singing, chamber music concerts, presentations, and multimedia experimental musical theatre performances. It is also suitable for formal ceremonies and various lectures. The walls are constructed with professional soundproofing materials that are thick and sturdy, effectively isolating external environmental noise. The interior decoration of the theatre utilizes high-quality solid oak, providing good sound reflection and creating a clear sound field. To express the beauty of "rests" and "pianissimo" in music, the air conditioning system is a crucial design element of Shifang Music Theatre, completely eliminating the wind noise commonly found in air ducts of small performance venues and multifunctional medium to large performance spaces. The audience seating is tiered, utilizing movable folding chairs, allowing flexibility in space usage according to the needs of each performing group, accommodating approximately 100 people. In 1997, percussionist Xu Boren and pianist Luo Meiya, fueled by their passion for art, returned to Taiwan—the land they deeply love—to create a garden of humanities and arts. Given the limited venues available for professional musicians to perform at that time in Taiwan, particularly spaces suitable for "modern music," they chose to transform a factory located in a small alley in Datong District, Taipei City into Taiwan's first privately-owned art hall. This small music theatre, with a height of 3.6 meters and a space with a golden ratio for sound, aims to make this venue a home for musicians. Outside the theatre, there is a Mado Café offering coffee, fine drinks, and meals to bring people closer to music and art through food. Now, Shifang Music Theatre has been established for over twenty years, hosting countless internationally renowned masters and collaborating with numerous emerging musicians returning from studying abroad. This place is where many professional musicians and Golden Melody Award winners produce albums and record music; it is the best choice for many music teachers to hold student concerts; it is a nurturing ground for contemporary Taiwanese composers to thrive and hold modern music forums; it is filled with love and passion for art. The story of this place is welcome to be continued with us. (Source: Shifang Music Theatre)
