Shih Fang Musical Theater Introduction
Shifang Music Theater is suitable for hosting percussion concerts, solo performances and singing events, chamber music concerts, presentations, and multimedia experimental music theater performances. It is also appropriate for formal ceremonies and various lectures. The walls are constructed with professional soundproof materials that are thick and sturdy, completely isolating external environmental noise. The interior of the theater is decorated with high-quality solid oak materials, providing excellent acoustic resonance, which creates a clear sound field. To express the beauty of "rests" and "pianississimo" in music, the air conditioning system is one of the important designs of Shifang Music Theater, entirely free from the wind noise typically associated with air ducts in small performance venues or multipurpose medium-large performance spaces. The seating is tiered with flexible folding chairs, allowing the space to be adapted according to the needs of each performing group, accommodating approximately 100 people. In 1997, percussionist Xu Boren, who studied in France, and pianist Lo Mei-Yah returned to Taiwan, a land they deeply loved, filled with passion for the arts, wanting to create a garden for cultural and artistic pursuits. Recognizing the limited venues available for professional musicians to perform in Taiwan at that time, especially those suitable for "modern music," they chose a factory located in a small alley in the Datong District of Taipei City and transformed it into Taiwan's first privately-owned art sanctuary. This intimate music theater, with a height of 3.6 meters, has a sound space in golden ratio. To make it a home for musicians, there is a café outside the theater, Mado Café, serving coffee, fine wines, and meals, bringing people closer to music and art through cuisine. Now, Shifang Music Theater has been established for over twenty years, hosting countless international masters and collaborating with numerous new musicians returning from studying abroad. It is a place where many professional musicians and Golden Melody Award winners produce albums and record discs; it is the best choice for many music teachers to hold student concerts; it is a nurturing ground for contemporary composers in Taiwan to thrive, hosting modern music forums; and it is filled with love and passion for the arts. We invite you to join us in continuing to share the stories of this place. (Source: Shifang Music)
