Hengshan Terraces Introduction
The Hengshan Terraces are located in the midstream of the Dakeng River and are a famous terraced landscape in Sanzhi. Traveling from the city center of Sanzhi towards Hengshan, a picturesque rural scene unfolds, with fields of crops standing along the hillside, intertwined with roads and rivers. The layered topography creates geometrically beautiful scenery. Whether in the desolate beauty during fallow times or the lush green landscape during the rush of the water bamboo shooting season, travelers can appreciate the changing beauty of the terraces with the seasons. Hengshan was formerly known as Hengshan Kan and is an area of hilly terrain with significant elevation differences. In the past, Sanzhi faced the sea with limited flat land, so the early settlers developed terraced fields to cultivate more rice, resulting in today’s famous terraced landscape in Sanzhi. Now, the Hengshan Terraces no longer grow rice but have become the hometown of water bamboo. The harvest season for Sanzhi water bamboo runs from September to November. Travelers are encouraged to visit the Hengshan Terraces during this season to enjoy the water bamboo fields swaying in the autumn breeze, as well as experience bamboo harvesting and savor distinctive bamboo-flavored meals, enjoying the pleasures of agricultural tourism.
