Hengshan Terraced Fields Introduction
Hengshan Terrace is located in the midstream of Dakeng Creek and is a renowned terraced landscape in Sanjhih. Starting from the Sanjhih city center towards Hengshan, fields of agricultural beauty come into view, with rows of farmland standing along the hillsides, interspersed with roads and rivers. The overlapping landscapes create stunning geometric patterns, allowing travelers to appreciate the beauty of the terraces that change with the seasons, whether it's the desolate beauty during fallow periods or the lush greenery of water bamboo shoots during their harvest season. Historically known as Hengshan Keng, this area is characterized by significant elevation differences in its hilly terrain. Early settlers in Sanjhih, facing the mountains and the sea with limited flat land, developed terraced fields to cultivate more rice, resulting in the famous terraced landscape of today. Although rice is no longer grown in Hengshan Terrace, it has become the hometown of water bamboo shoots. From September to November each year is the harvest season for Sanjhih's water bamboo shoots. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Hengshan Terrace during this period to admire the fields of water bamboo shoots swaying in the autumn breeze, as well as to harvest and taste unique dishes made from water bamboo shoots, enjoying the delightful experience of rural tourism.
