Zhanghe Wetland Introduction
Zhanghe Wetland is located at the Zhonghe Interchange of National Highway No. 3, covering an area of 6.7 hectares, with a water area of 0.9 hectares. It was completed and opened in 2013, making it the first metropolitan artificial wetland park in New Taipei City. The park was closed for construction related to the seismic reinforcement of the highway and reopened to the public in December 2021. The natural engineering methods allow for a sustainable cycle, utilizing the existing topography and employing low-carbon, energy-saving natural purification techniques that treat wastewater before returning it to the irrigation channels, forming a continuous water cycle. The wetland features various types of water bodies and native plant species, enriching the biodiversity within the habitat. Additionally, crops such as noni, water lilies, and taro are planted to promote agricultural education. The Zhanghe Wetland exhibits rich ecological diversity, with recorded visits from 116 butterfly species and 90 bird species, and over 384 types of plants. It is home to species such as the Common Mormon butterfly, Pink butterfly, Taiwan Blue Magpie, Rainbow Parrot, and Crested Serpent Eagle, as well as efforts to reintroduce various endangered species like the Wulai azalea. Access to the Zhanghe Wetland is by reservation only, with guided tours led by professionals. Visitors can apply for reservations through the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau to embark on an ecological journey in this urban corner.
