Zhanghe Wetland Introduction
Zhanghe Wetland is located in the middle of the Zhonghe Interchange on National Highway No. 3, covering an area of 6.7 hectares, with a water area of 0.9 hectares. It was completed and opened to the public in 2013, making it the first urban artificial wetland park in New Taipei City. The park was subsequently closed due to seismic reinforcement work on the highway, and it reopened to the public in December 2021. Utilizing natural methods, the Zhanghe Wetland is designed to follow the existing terrain and topography, employing low-carbon and energy-saving natural purification techniques to treat wastewater, which is then reused in irrigation, creating a sustainable water cycle. By establishing various types of water bodies and incorporating different native plant species, the wetland enriches the biodiversity within the habitat. It is home to crops such as bamboo shoots, water lilies, and taro, promoting agricultural education. The ecological diversity in Zhanghe Wetland is impressive, with a total of 116 butterfly species, 90 bird species recorded, and over 384 plant species planted. It serves as a home for butterflies, Formosan blue magpies, colorful birds, and the endangered Ulay azalea, among others. Admission to Zhanghe Wetland is by reservation only, with guided tours provided by staff. Visitors can make reservations through the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Agency for a unique ecological journey in the urban corner. (Provided by Zhanghe Wetland guide Lin Zhenxing)
