Zhanghe Wetland Introduction
Zhanghe Wetland is located in the Zhonghe Interchange area of National Freeway No. 3, covering an area of 6.7 hectares, with a water area of 0.9 hectares. It was completed and opened in 2013, making it New Taipei's first metropolitan artificial wetland park. Subsequently, the park was closed due to seismic reinforcement work on the highway, and it reopened to the public in December 2021. By employing natural methods, Zhanghe Wetland follows the existing topography and utilizes low-carbon and energy-saving natural purification techniques to purify wastewater, which is then recirculated into the irrigation channels, creating a sustainable water cycle. The wetland is enriched with diverse habitats through the establishment of various types of water areas and native plant species. Crops such as taro, water lily, and white bamboo shoot are cultivated within the wetland to promote agricultural education. The ecology of Zhanghe Wetland is highly diverse, with a record of 116 butterfly species, 90 bird species visiting, and over 384 plant species cultivated. It serves as a home for species such as the Common Eggfly, the Taiwan Blue Magpie, and the Crested Serpent Eagle, and it has also reintroduced various endangered species, including the Ulay Rhododendron. Entrance to Zhanghe Wetland is by appointment only, with guided tours led by designated instructors. Visitors can apply for reservations through the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau for an ecological journey in this urban corner. (Provided by Zhanghe Wetland guide Lin Zhenxing)
