Zhanghe Wetland Introduction
Zhanghe Wetland is located at the Zhonghe Interchange of National Highway No. 3, covering an area of 6.7 hectares, with a water area of 0.9 hectares. It was completed and opened to the public in 2013, becoming New Taipei's first urban artificial wetland park. However, it was closed for renovations due to seismic reinforcement work on the highway, and reopened to the public again in December 2021. Utilizing natural methods, Zhanghe Wetland follows the existing topography and landforms, incorporating low-carbon and energy-saving natural purification techniques to treat wastewater, which is then returned to the irrigation channels, creating a sustainable water cycle. By setting up different types of water bodies and planting various native species, the biodiversity of the habitat has been enriched. The wetland also cultivates crops such as bamboo shoots, water lilies, and taro, aiming to promote agricultural education. The ecosystem of Zhanghe Wetland is highly diverse, with a total of 116 butterfly species, 90 bird species recorded, and over 384 types of plants cultivated. It is home to species such as the swallowtail butterfly, pink butterfly, Formosan blue magpie, five-colored bird, and the crested serpent eagle, while also rehabilitating several endangered species like the Wulai azalea. Zhanghe Wetland only accepts reservations for entry, which is guided by designated instructors. Visitors can make reservations through the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau for an ecological journey in this urban corner. (Provided by the Zhanghe Wetland guide Lin Zhenxing)
